Can I stack two mattresses in newborn cot?

Got our old next to me set up for the baby forgetting we've had a new divan bed since and it's so high up. The next to me is on max height setting and still the mattresses aren't level which I can see is a suffocation risk. I'm not sure whether furniture risers or doubling up on his mattress is the safest idea?! Can't really afford a new crib!

I would rather use books or wooden planks/blocks to raise the kevel of the cot.

What the PP said. Two mattresses is a SIDS risk and should never be used.

There's actually no reason why not - the next to me mattress is basically solid so it's not like you're stacking two soft mattresses on top of each other. But yes, I would use something completely solid that you can put in a flat layer like wooden blocks or books.

I wouldn’t, additionally the newer next to me cribs mattress isn’t level with the level of the bed, it’s deemed safer the crib level is lower.

You need the lip of the crib no more than 2cm from the top of the mattress so you need to raise the whole crib rather than the mattress inside (that would make the crib unsafe so don't do it anyway).
It doesn't look much more, so one large thick piece of wood under the all of the crib legs should do it. Just make sure it's even and won't move around.
