Hi everyone my 7 week old daughter has been suffering with some stomach problems reflux and colic, hiccups, coughing, very unsettled arching back and legs etc. GP advised antireflux formula (aptamil) we tried this for two weeks but recently stopped as baby was having dirty nappies at every feeding and had awful painful bottom wind. GP advised us to try lactose free formula before we go down the route of CMPA. Started lactose free aptamil yesterday baby seemed more content this morning but since has became very unsettled and last two nappies look like this and again very fussy at feeding and straining when passing bm??? Will be calling hv/gp in morning but was wondering if anyone had similar experience.
Thanks in advance from v worried mother

Hi there - I wouldn't worry too much at all. Mother with uni aged DC here. All three had nappies like this from time to time, especially when they were new borns and especially when changing formula.

By all means check in with your HV / GP, but likely they'll tell you it's normal.

We also used Infacol (should have had shares in it frankly) which worked very well, along with baby massage to relieve sore, stressed tummies.

My little boy has CMPA. He is 3 now and his nappies looking like that was an indication of the cows milk in his diet.

You say you’ve changed milk recently, how long has he had it for? It can sometimes take time to react. Are they well generally?

We changed formula several times to find the right one. It may be the GP can suggest another one if this isn’t quite right. It really is trial and error.

Another thought, are you exclusively bottle feeding? If you’re doing a mixture of breast and bottle, you’ll need to go diary free too as the dairy milk proteins in your diet will be passed on n

Just re-read your message. Are you buying your own formula? Lactose free still has milk protein, just removes the lactose.

For CMPA, GP should prescribe hydralised formula for you. It stinks and as I said trial and error n ale sure you get it in prescription.

My baby has CMPA and gets snotty green nappies when there’s any milk in her diet. Strongly recommend trying the hydrolysed formula swiftly because as the PP said, it’s not lovely and the longer you leave it the harder it is to persuade them to take it. Good luck.

Oh gosh I remember those nappies well. CMPA right there. Lactose free formula won't help, we tried pepti but ended up on neocate. It took months to go to normal nappies. My little girls allergy was IGE but she's nearly grown out of it at 14 months.
