Tell me about your 2 year old’s naps/ sleep?

DD is 25 months. Sleep had always been very dodgy. She’s a fan of the split night and frankly I’m on my knees with exhaustion. She will wake about 1am and be wide awake until 4am. My other Dd has been ill a lot lately and I’ve spent a lot of nights awake all night with her. So it’s either one or both of my kids up every night at the moment. Just wondering what time other people put their two year olds to bed and what time and duration naps are?
At the moment I generally put her down between 7:30 and 8 ish. Sometimes she goes straight to sleep other times she can mess about for a good hour. She has a nap about 11:30-12pm and I wake her at 1:30pm. She would have longer if I let her but do find she’s worse if I let her.

Just come on to be that arsehole and say,
My 24 month old
My 25 month old
My 26 month old

  1. Your child is 2.

Haha classic MN bingo and usually I would wholeheartedly agree with you! However, against my own better judgement I would like to put forward a case that in this instance, exact age is extremely relevant. ‘My child dropped his nap at 2’ doesn’t mean a great deal when that could be that it was dropped it the exact week of his second birthday, it could be 2 and a half, or it could be the month they turned 3. And of course you could say that they stopping napping 4 months after they turned 2 (or whatever) but 30 months is a lot more concise 😀

@FlounderingFruitcake thank you. Surely stating the months is less words!!

DS just turned 2.

Recently wake up is between 7.30 and 8am, a nap for 1-1.5hrs between 1pm & 2.30pm and then bedtime between 7.15 & 7.45pm.

We don’t pick him up from nursery until 5.30pm ish so we’d struggle to get him home, cook, eat and bathed much earlier than we do.

Rarely he has skipped a nap and bedtime is then 6.45pm but he’ll do 13 hours overnight.

He was a terrible sleeper until about 16 months (awake every 45 mins - 2 hours) so I’m pretty happy now

I wouldn't drop the nap if she still needs it. My daughter is 2.5 years, she is in nursery 2 days a weeks and doesn't sleep there and on those days she will not sleep through the night due to being over tired. Over time I have cut her nap down from 2 hours to 1.5 hours and now she has 1 hour, 1 hour 15mins max after lunch.
My 4 year old dropped her naps before turning 3, only sleeping occasionally in the car for 30 mins but is an awful sleeper now (was amazing) xxx

2-2.5 has been a bit tricky with sleep. We found DS had to nap very early (preferably before 12) and for max 1 hour otherwise he'd be a nightmare at bedtime.

At 2.5 we have finally dropped naps and it is so much easier though he does get a bit zombie-like in the last hour or so of the day. He's having a nap today as he's a bit poorly. I should wake him up soon though. I really hate waking them up from naps as feels so mean!
