BLW question

DS just turned 6mo. He's a big lad so started offering a little puree a couple of weeks ago. He didn't respond well to being fed with a spoon so we've stopped that and moved onto BLW. To cut a long story short DS absolutely loves it but I'm not sure how much I should let him eat. I'm a bit worried I'm letting him eat too much too quickly. For lunch today he ate x5 organix melty sticks (just been giving him a few to practise feeding himself/chewing) and then some steamed vegetables to chew on. I don't think that much went in. He then sucked on a slice of pear which he definitely ate. He seemed gurney when he got up from his last nap so put him in the high chair and gave him a strip of a slice of bread (about a quarter) with some mushed up avacado on which he devoured and x2 melty sticks. I just went on the NHS website to remind myself about introducing possible allergy food and it said at 6mo only give them one meal a day? DS doesn't want to stop eating but does get very tired after a while so I stop him. Is this OK? He doesn't want to top up with BF after he's eaten solids...

The solid starts app is great for prep and portion suggestions

My DD was on 2 meals really quickly, she really took to it fast. On day 3 she ate a generous portion of chilli and rice!

There really doesn’t need to be any hard rules as long as still taking enough milk. Some will eat lots, others eat nothing at all. Mine was and still is a gannet!

Sorry can't answer your specific question, but another vote here for Solid Starts - website and Instagram. Tons of amazing info on BLW including the first 100 days meal plan.

I'd suggest reading this

It really simplifies BLW: just feed them a bit of whatever you eat (with a few exceptions e.g. honey), ensure it's cut safely and let them eat as much as they like 🙂

Thanks everyone! I guess I'm more asking ie portion size rather than what to feed make. I have a 3yo as well but we weaned her early due to reflux (drs suggestion) so we started very gradual with a teaspoon of baby rice a day and then built it up from there. I'm actually really enjoying BLW but just no idea about how quickly to to increase portions and how often DS is eating!

*what food to make.

Ps I should say that I don't have time to read any books on account of my 3yo. I'd much rather just have DS join in with family meals straight off the back but like I said in PP it's new territory to me!

I wouldn't worry about portion size, let him be the judge of that.

You're supposed to offer breast milk first at this age though.

I had a lengthy convo with paed about this. She said to offer baby nutritional foods and let baby decide what and how much to eat. Food at 6-12mos is meant as an exploration and introduction and to decrease allergy risk, so ensure you cover all the allergy foods months 6/7.

This is quite helpful:

Food before 1 is fun. Milk still mains source. But if he is enjoying food just give it him. It’s fine, he’ll self regulate.

i did same as you want to - just mini appropriately cut portions of whatever we had (minus salt, honey, whole nuts) some days/meals she ate amazingly, other times would refuse everything, other times would spend an hour sucking on a carrot.

shss 2.5 now and eats amaziny well and loves a range of food because of that.

as long as you have offered milk first before 1, let him eat what he wants. I think I started on one meal, but yeah we very quickly got to 2 and then 3!
