How long after this did your baby walk?

My son turned 1 just after Christmas! Last week he finally started pulling to stand and does it all the time now and even takes some little steps holding onto things.

quite wobbly still and doesn’t stand for ages! But I’m so proud :)

Ive ordered some Clark’s pre walkers as he slips in socks (even with grips) and after so long barefoot I have to put socks on as his little feet get cold

but after your baby started pulling to stand and holding onto things stepping when did they walk? X

6 months for us! But I think she was unusual 😂 she could walk perfectly but would just not let go of our hand! It was not a good 6 months for my back!! Hopefully it’s much sooner for you x

stewielouie · 08/01/2023 19:48

Pulled to stand as soon as she could crawl but didn’t walk until 7 months later. I don’t think cruising is necessarily an indicator of when they will start walking.

DS cruised for 10 long fucking months...

We saw babies who couldn't even sit yet crawl, cruise and walk before he finally decided to let go. Grin

I think it was 2-3 months for us. Both walked within weeks of being able to stand up without holding onto anything.

Vallmo47 · 08/01/2023 19:51

Roughly 4 months or so, but it varies a lot depending on how much time you put in practising with them. :) Once they walk it becomes much harder so enjoy this while it lasts.

welshweasel · 08/01/2023 19:52

A good few months. Keep them barefoot as much as possible, they don't need any sort of shoes until they're walking well.

Toddlerbaby · 08/01/2023 19:54

Mine turned one just before Christmas! She cruised at around 7 months and started standing on her own on Christmas day, she’s now taking steps on her own but still prefers crawling, but getting more confident by the day. So I guess about 5-6 months. I don’t remember with mu oldest 🤷‍♀️

SkankingWombat · 08/01/2023 19:55

DD1 around 4 months, DD2 about 7!

Longbin · 08/01/2023 19:56

About 8 months

ChocoFudge · 08/01/2023 19:57

About 5 months. Better off in socks than any kind of pre walker shoes, it lets the baby feel the floor etc better and lets them learn a natural foot movement. He will learn to manage the slipping.

WalkingOnSonshine · 08/01/2023 19:57

DS pulled up to stand at 6 months, cruised at 7
months & was nearly 10 months when he walked.

It seemed forever for him to take those first steps!

FlounderingFruitcake · 08/01/2023 20:00

My eldest went from pulling to stand to walking within days and was only 9 months old! I wasn’t prepared for that at all. Her younger brother pulled up at the same age but got stuck cruising for 3 months and walked properly bang on his first birthday. I don’t think there’s any hard and fast rule although my early walker never crawled whilst her more typical brother did so maybe there’s something there?

It is best to have them barefoot at home though. It’s far better for foot development. The pre walkers are good if they want to walk holding your hand out of the house but I wouldn’t use them at home.

My little one was a bum shuffler but kinda hopped along on one hand, I think because she could see where she was going and could get there quickly she wasn't bothered about anything else 🙈 she starting cruising around 1 yr but soon got bored and went back to the bum shuffle/hop.
She was 14 months before she started walking!

Allgoodthings1 · 08/01/2023 20:03

I remember my little boy did this and I came on here frantically searching for how long it would be. The next steps (excuse the pun) were being able to walk with his push along walker - it always went too fast for him when he put all his weight on it and eventually he mastered it. He could do this around 1. At this point he could occasionally stand on his own but was very wobbly. We were getting married and I was so desperate for him to walk down the aisle but it didn’t happen in the end up, he held on with two hands to the bridesmaids but at least he walked 😂

He started taking steps on his own from one place to another if it was just too far for him to reach but it was only if he had absolutely no other option, he’d go back down and crawl if need be. I assumed after his first few independent steps he’d be off, it seemed like everyone else’s baby did this but it was between 2 and 3 months after this that he actually started using walking as a way of getting about. He just wasn’t interested before that and would choose to crawl every time instead, it was quicker for him. I got so hung up on all of this and couldn’t help but be jealous when friend’s baby’s took their first steps before their first birthday etc but he’s now 17 months and he walks, they all walks, no one cares who walked when anymore! It’s honestly not a big deal at all and only seems like it in that little moment in time. It doesn’t help when people ask how old they are, you say 1 and they say ‘oh is he walking?’ Like what do they want you to answer? If it’s no then that’s obviously just going to make someone feel bad. I will never ask this to any parent now 🙈

Dd - days. (10 days between first time she stood to walking competently.)
Ds - months!

Dd was nearly 18 months when first stood though so I suspect she is unusual in being so “quick”. (After being really bloody slow up until that point!)

BluIsTheColour · 08/01/2023 20:09

All really varies. I'd imagine 3-4 months later is about average.

My first about 5 months later. Could stand and walk around furniture from 10 months. Took several steps upto about 7 steps at 1yr old. She pretty much then refused to try and walk and would get all anxious and cry 🙁 so didn't properly start walking until 15 months old.

With my second about 2 months later. She started walking round furniture at 9 months took first steps at 11 months and properly walking a week later.

OrangePomander · 08/01/2023 20:10

Eldest dc took months from that point even with lots of encouragement, youngest pulled to standing and was walking across the room within a day or so. Bit of a shock after number one!

MGee123 · 08/01/2023 20:20

4-5 months I think. Best not to use shoes - he needs to feel the floor under his feet to help him balance/stabilise and barefoot will help all the smaller muscles in his feet develop. Shoes are bloody expensive so don't start with them until you have to! Recommendation is they don't them until they are functionally walking ie able to walk outdoors.

ToddleToddleToddle · 08/01/2023 20:35

About 3-4 months.

You can get socks with grips on the bottom to help with slipping a bit. Barefoot is best but in winter they probably do need socks

My DD was the same! Such a young child walking is no fun haha, she was such a tiny little dot as well it just seemed ridiculous!

StampOnTheGround · 08/01/2023 20:42

DS could pull to stand at 6 months, cruising round furniture from 6.5 months and took the odd couple of steps at just over 8 months and probably started doing it more consistently and many more steps at 8.5 months - so probably 2/2.5 months 😊 enjoy life before it happens as it suddenly gets more chaotic!

Blughbablugh · 08/01/2023 20:48

My 18 month older was pulling to stand by 1 and cruising and we are still waiting for him to walk independently. He can stand on his own and has taken a few steps but just seems like he can't be arsed to walk and would rather crawl. My dd who is now 6 was cruising for just a few months before walking, but as soon as she learnt she was off!

purpledalmation · 08/01/2023 20:50

pulled to stand for a week or so and off walking at 9 months. not steady but all accross the room.

FT123456 · 08/01/2023 20:51

My DS starting pulling to stand around 8/9 months I think ... he's 13 months still not walking just yet. x

Ontheflipside_ · 08/01/2023 20:52

Pulled to stand, cruises and started crawling 9months. Didn't walk until 13 months
