Moving baby in her own room soon - she's 5.5 months

Haven't thought of it until now but anyone have one ? Or some info on if I should at this stage?

I understand it doesn't prevent SIDS but as she's moving to her own room would it be a good idea?

Thanks

We had something similar but only because there had been issues with a DCousin's baby. He's survived, we reckon he was just too laid back to breathe Grin

We used it from 6 months. It's reassuring to hear the "cheep cheep" of his movements as he breathes. I would definitely recommend it as a monitor

@PritiPatelsMaker thanks just checking out which one to buy - they are expensive 😫

@ToddleToddleToddle yeah I think we will get one - just a bit of reassurance

My DC was extremely ill not long after birth, he ended up in neonatal as, as a result of his anti seizure medication he kept having sleep apnea. I asked the neonatal nurses if it was worth me getting one for when he came home. They said they are more trouble than they are worth and advised against it. I didn't get one as it was purely the meds that caused it and when he was better we haven't had issues since. He's now one and that only happens for a day or 2 when he was less than 10 days old.
I strongly recommend just talking to your HV or GP about it for advice. I'm not suggesting you don't do it. I just think get some more advise from a professional and then pointed to one they most recommend.

I had one for reassurance. It went off once and I rushed upstairs. My baby was about 4 months and I really struggled to rouse him. Once he was awake, he cried and seemed normal so I didn’t check him further but always wonder if he’d have forgotten to breathe if I hadn’t had the alarm.

strawberrysummer23 · 07/01/2023 18:37

@shieldmaiden7 thanks but my HV isn't really that helpful and GP I just think they wouldn't be able to give me advice on what I'm looking for hence m my post here
I bet they can be more trouble then they are worth but I still think I wanna get one and wanted advice pros and cons for people who have actually had them x

I think the angelcare is a waste of money for a 5 month old who will be thrashing and rolling around the cot and off the monitoring pad. We have an owlet. I love it. I'm a paramedic so if something were to happen I could quickly intervene.

strawberrysummer23 · 08/01/2023 06:16

@sunflowerandivy yeah I know that the thing - one we were recommended was £250 😩
Ohh what's that? X

Owlet is a sock that goes onto foot. It tracks, heart rate, oxygen saturations and sleep pattern. It has a loud alarm of heart rate too high, too low or oxygen saturations too low (which would happen quickly during cessation of breathing). I my daughter just had Bronchiolitis and the monitor was great as I knew oxygen and heart rate overnight was being monitored and I could see and show doctors what her observations had been.
