I think I’ve caused baby to have a feeding aversion

I’ve been debating for ages whether to stop breastfeeding nearly 4 month old DS but would like to continue to 6 months. He’s on the 2nd centile (dropped from 9th at birth) and I’ve been under pressure from the health visitor to increase his feeds to increase his weight. This has mean me offering the breast loads and trying to get him to latch on. I feel like I’ve pressured him too much and now he won’t feed. It’s been going on for a few days and seems to be getting worse - when I get him in the cradle position (or any other position) he will arch his back and cry even when it’s been 3-4 hours since his last feed. I’m having to feed him when he’s super sleepy to get him to latch. He’s been waking for night feeds as normal and they haven’t been a problem, it’s just in the day. I had to express earlier on because my breasts were that full from him skipping a feed and I offered him the bottle of breastmilk which he also refused. I’ve since fed him while he’s asleep. How do I resolve this? I’m worried I’ve pressured him too much to feed frequently and it’s developed an aversion.

He did have his 16 week vaccinations on Monday and it seems to have gotten worse since then, not sure if that’s a factor.

Have a look at Kathryn Stagg on Instagram. She has a few posts about feeding aversions. I know at around 4 months my baby became too easily distracted to feed unless she was just waking up from a nap or throughout the night. I'll put some links below.

Please see an IBCLC, health visitors often aren't trained in BF

@newmum0604 thanks so much for this, I’ll check out those links.

@LlamaLlamaDramaDrama thank you, we have seen a lactation consultant twice and she was really helpful but so expensive! She identified a posterior tongue tie which we had released but he’s always been a nightmare to feed and it hasn’t improved matters :( if this carries on I’ll have to see her again.

@Moonshine160 hey! Can I ask how you got on? I'm in a near identical situation with my daughter, she was 2 months premature so it's been drummed in to me to feed feed feed but now I think I've given her a breastfeeding aversion! She's 8 months old now and I really don't want to give up breastfeeding as we've worked so hard to get where we are.

@dogmum93 hey! It resolved itself, he’s nearly 2 now and we’re still breastfeeding :) I tried to relax a bit and stop offering so much and to pick up on his hunger cues instead, plenty of skin to skin. I think he was picking up on my anxiety tbh. Good luck x
