Nappy Leaking Hell

Help! We are really struggling with a 12 day old. Every night he is soaking through his nappies with pee at the back. We’ve tried going up a size for absorbency, doubling up, trying reusables with extra boosters. We’re making sure his penis is pointing down too and getting the nappies nice and tight. Any advice, recommendations on brands that could work or tips would be recommended. Some nights we are on 3 outfit changes which means we are having little sleep.

Given everything you've tried my only advice would be to try some other brands, personally we used also premium size 1-3 then swapped to Asda little angels but I know many mums who didn't get on with Asda and can only use Tesco without leaks. Each bum is shaped different so could be trial and error to find the brand that works best for you?

newmumtotwo24 · 06/01/2023 02:48

That should say Aldi premiums

hotshot55 · 06/01/2023 02:49

Have you tried another brand? I found the Asda nappies perfect but didnt get on with aldi ones which people love. Also, is the babies vest too tight? That can alter the shape of a nappy when wet sometimes.

Thanks @newmumtotwo24 that’s a good idea. I’ll get some new brands and experiment!

He is quite long so perhaps a longer vest could help. I’ve heard good things about Asda and Aldi nappies so I’ll give them both a go. Thanks @hotshot55

I find Tesco’s own brand of nappies are the best - but I think it depends what works best for your baby so worth giving different brands a go!

CluelessHamster · 06/01/2023 03:06

This takes me back 28 years when I had the same problem with DS1! Fine during the day but leaks every night! I would hear him grumbling long before he was hungry because he was wet but, of course, once the wetness woke him, he'd want a feed as well so it made for some very disturbed nights. The only thing that worked for us in the end was old fashioned terry nappies and plastic pants. Hopefully you will find a brand that suits your little one but just a suggestion if not.

BDM · 06/01/2023 03:13

@CluelessHamster exactly what we’re having here. It’s waking him up early and then we have long feeds after the outfit change. It’s so exhausting and as you say fine in the day. We do have some Terry nappies I could try. So nice to know I’m not the only one

This happened with us and the solution was pampers and making sure his vest was a size up. So annoying but this sorted it out for us!

BDM · 06/01/2023 05:24

@Mamabear04 thanks so much for the tips

Pampers baby dry work for us. Most nights not all (I just changed a leaky toddler but it's 6:30 AM here now so fair enough).

newmumtotwo24 · 06/01/2023 11:17

Also since you are dry during the day if a more expensive brand works at night you only have to use them at night so not as painful cost wise. We sized up at night from about 5months as well. So that's something you might consider doing in the future once you've found an option that doesn't leak.

GoldenCagedBird · 06/01/2023 11:19

Vest will be too snug. It squishes the nappy.

stick a 0-3 month vest on him (John Lewis are generously sized) and I bet that will solve your problem.

SamanthaVimes · 06/01/2023 11:21

Another vote for using a bigger vest (or a vest extender)

CoalCraft · 06/01/2023 11:52

Tesco's own brand are great. I have a two year old and a five month old a d have literally had two wee leaks ever. Meanwhile Sainsbury's own brand were useless!

cupofdecaf · 06/01/2023 12:13

Try the nappy lady for advice on a good reusable combination. We've found motherease duos with a booster can handle a 2 year old all night.

cupofdecaf · 06/01/2023 12:15

Oh yes and as others have said make sure the vest isn't squeezing the nappy. You can get vest extenders if big vests come down the shoulders.

This is really useful thanks so much.
