Newborn-Pooping

How often should a 1 and a half week old poop? He was going quite regularly (once-twice a day) and lately has been going every other day, sometimes every 2 days. I spoke to the health advisor who said it was normal but everywhere i read says that newborns should be going 1-2 times a day. He sometimes looks as if he's struggling to poop and it hurts but my health advisor also said as long as it was a good consistency then it was fine and he wasn't constipated until it had been 10 days since a bowel movement. He's formula fed if that helps and eats verrrry regularly. Passes lots of gas so no issues there just isn't pooping often. My midwife is around tomorrow so i'll double check with her but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on how to get them to go more often? He's currently using infacol

My son is 6 weeks. It’s horrible seeing them so uncomfortable.

We found that infacol bunged my son up where he was going every 4-5 days. We changed him to colief and he started going once or twice daily and passing lots of wind.

Also lots of tummy massages, bicycle legs and warm baths helped my son.

As long as babies don't seem in pain, not needed to overly strain to pop and the consistency is normal - ie loose rather than hard like rabbit droppings then it's normal for formula fed babies to go anything up to a week between poos. Their systems are very new and need to settle into a routine so don't panic unless something seems obviously wrong.

My DS was like this, still is at 5 months. I was really worried but it's fine!

What a helpful comment, I think you could disappear up your own arse.
