Worried sick. Is this craniosynostosis ?!

My baby is a month old, and have noticed the back of his head sticks out in a funny way. It’s hard to tell due to his hair, but it feels like a raised bit almost in the shape of an upside triangle protruding out. I can feel hard ridges around the shape at the back of his head too.

I’m really worried it could be craniosynostosis going by dr Google. I’ve attached a pictures below

My younger daughter’s head was like this. More pronounced actually. We did actually get her investigated for craniostenosis (skull X-rays at about 6 months), but all her skull sutures looked normal. She just has an unusual shaped head. We all have quite long heads in my family, and she was breach for the last two months gestation, which may have made it more pronounced. Then as we couldn’t get her to lie flat on her back (it was like balancing an egg on it’s point) I think it help round it out. We did make a little donut out of a silk scarf which we would balance her head in for sleep, but she would just roll out of it.

She 11 now and still has a pointy back to her head, but her forehead is not bossed anymore and it’s not at all noticeable through her hair unless she wears it in bunches. It looks fine though. I’ve told her it’s beautiful and elegant like Nefertiti.

Do talk to your dot if you’re worried. I was thought it was significant enough to be worth investigating.

I meant it didn’t round out as we couldn’t get her her to balance on the pointy bit when she was sleeping. With that and her over the shoulders breech legs we had to give up rather on the ‘back to sleep’ position, and just let her sleep on her side 🤷🏻‍♀️

it was very long at 2 weeks old: She’s absolutely normal and healthy. I really understand, but please don’t worry yourself sick (even though I’d did 😂). Do ask your doctor if you are worried though.

If you have a Facebook account, maybe join the Noggin Doctor's Plagiocephaly and Torticollis Discussion Board. I know the title sounds like it wouldn't be relevant, but it is run by a Craniofacial Paediatric plastic surgeon who specialises in craniosynostosis. You will have to provide different views, particularly a top down image, but he will be able to set your mind at rest, or recommend further investigation if applicable.
