I don't like the thick, horrible zinc creams, we don't have a rash problem but I like a little something to keep him all soft and to soothe, especially in the morning.

I adore Waitrose bottom butter, cheap and free from any nasties (yes I can be anal about that) but my Waitrose has stopped stocking it and is closing soon anyway and I'm not going to get Ocado do deliver a year's supply.

So what do you use? Burt's bees skin cream is lush but way too expensive. Not keen on Neal's yard that we currently have and is also expensive.

and another but I also like bepanthen - not as messy as some of the others and really good.

When my DD had a very bad rash I took her to doc. he gave me Daktacort. tried Metanium (sp?) Nothing worked.

Then I tried egg-white. It's the best for me. Put it on the night before bedtime. next morning it's GONE

PMSL dada Didn't quite see how Waitrose would replace the main supermarket for half the student population.

I'm loving the idea of melting beeswax into olive oil!

will second (third, fourth) Vaseline. It's great - have had no nappy rash problems and it's so cheap.

neals yard for pink soreness
sudocrem for red soreness
metanium when it's really bad

...and for all Waitrose bottom-butter fans, it's reduced from £2.49 to £1.85 till the 19th Feb. Ours has just had a delivery of 600 (!) so if any Waitrosas in exile want any posted let me know...

I've just come on the board to ask the very same question as the OP.... we haven't been able to find our beloved Waitrose Bottom Butter in Woking or Guildford for months. But if it's coming back into stock that is very very exciting news!! It's amazing stuff. We're down to our last jar and have been rationing furiously!!!

I might get some from Ocado in the mean time just in case it takes a bit longer to come back into our local shops.

I agree Metanium is brill!! and keeping the nappy off as long as possible. My little boys bum was really sore due to a bug so I kept him nappy free all day - a lot of mess but his smiley cheeks made it all worth while.
The Green People Soothe and Calm is also good to help when the rash isn't tooooo fierce (Waitrose) x

I found a good ezcema cream online. It is starflower - similar to the Neal's Yard but much more easily absorbed. It's from a company called Abbey Essential you get a biggish tub for about £2.50 I don't know if it is a good preventative but ver soothing. They mainly do essential oils and their Tea Tree and Lavender oils are really cheap compared to other companies. The delivery time was pretty good too (next day). Anyone would think I work for them - I don't I work for the NHS but if they want to send me commission they can!

lucas paw paw ointment

scroll down - 25g tube for 3.49 pounds

lasts for ages

DrippingLizzie · 20/04/2008 01:36

Bepanthan ointment from chemists. Fantastic stuff that has soothed my kids' nappy rash in a matter of minutes.

kittywise · 20/04/2008 07:26

metanium and if the bottom is really, seriously sore and bleeding then metanium and a really thick layer of petroleum jelly on top to act as a barrier.

kittywise · 20/04/2008 07:27

btw, metanium should be spread very thinly indeed!

Waitrose Bottom Butter is flying off the shelves, leading to shortages.

Article about in Saturdays Daily Mail "supermarket stampede as women slap £2.49 baby 'bottom butter' on their faces"

Supermarket staff were mystified when a cream for baby's bottom began selling like hot cakes. Then they discovered the reason - mums were putting it on their own faces.

I use it as an all over moisturiser for my DS. It smells absolutely georgous too.
