Just out of interest...

And then, what time do they get up?

Bed around 9pm-ish and up around 7am-ish.

PestoMonster · 04/02/2008 09:50

In bed by about 7.30, lights out (after reading time) at 8.00pm, no later on a school night.

In the holidays about an hour later.

She gets up about 7.00am most days.

TrinityRhino · 04/02/2008 09:53

dd1 wil be 8 in march
official bedtime is 7pm with her younger sister
but when she turns 8 i'm going to change it to 7.30 and add a little reading time onto that
she wakes at 7am most mornings and appears to be a cild who needs her sleep so dont think I can do it any later
she stays up later at weekends and holidays, maybe an hour or so

A few months ago there was someone on here who was talking about the quarter of an hour rule; I had never heard of it before. Basically, she put her 1 yr old to bed at 6pm and on every birthday she put them to bed a quarter of an hour later. I liked that idea. As it happened my 8yr old goes to bed at quarter to eight, so on his ninth birthday it will be 8 o'clock. He gets dragged out of bed at 7 btw.

Vacua · 04/02/2008 10:14

they're all different though - vac1 who is now 17 needed about 15 hours sleep to function well and still does, vac2 has never slept for more than about 6 hours at any age, vac3 is about average I think

I think you have to be a bit flexible as your children probably haven't read the text books and don't know that they're supposed to be fine on x hours a night

MrsBoo · 04/02/2008 10:24

My DS, just turned 8, i try to put in bed by 9pm, any earlier just isn't worth it. He is normally asleep by 10pm.
It is rubbish as I would like some time to myself.
He is up again by 7am, raring to go again - doesn't seem to need any more.

fortunately my DD needs more sleep

Bink · 04/02/2008 10:25

ds 8 (9 in April) -

  • school night: bed 8.30 pm; up at 6.45 am (I have to wake him)
  • non-school night: reads till 9 or even later; up & whizzing about by 7 without anyone waking him.

It's a bit of a puzzle as to how much he varies, but I think the common-sense view would be that he just prefers home to school & that affects his sleep pattern.

theboob · 04/02/2008 10:26

ds1 is nearly 8 he goes to bed at 8 and is up for around 7

jellybelly25 · 07/02/2008 21:59

I forgot I'd posted this! Thanks ladies! Its interesting that almost all are within an hour of each other. My dd1 was going to bed at 8.30 and was struggling to get up for 7.30 , or even am some mornings. Wee've moved it forwards to 8pm with a half hour play/read/chill beforehand, and she's much much better in the mornings now. Seems she just needs at least 11 hours to function. Becomes absolutely monstrous after a couple of late nights, cries hysterically every time she is up past 9pm, can't cope with it at all bless her.

My two (7 and 11) go to bed at the same time, between 8 and 8.30, as big sister needs a lot more sleep than little brother. Woken up at 7 on Mondays and Tuesdays and 7.30 the rest of the week.

Scramble · 07/02/2008 23:53

Bed at 9, falls asleep about 9:45, any earlier and she seems to be awake for ages.

Dragged out of bed about 7:45 half the mornings up herself about 7:30 the other half.

I feel she could do with being alseep by 9 but I just can't get her to fall asleep any earlier,

chocfest · 09/02/2008 12:05

Going to sound a dreadful mum now BUT I have never had a bed time for mine, at any age. I found if i put them to bed when they weren't ready, they would make every excuse under the sun to come back out, i.e toilet, drink, to tell me something "really really important", so gave up and they just go when they are ready. Is that really bad...cringing now!

SparklyDYSONGothKat · 09/02/2008 12:08

my Ds1 is 10 and goes at 8pm, and my dd1 is 7 and goes 7pm.

2sugars · 09/02/2008 12:23

8 yo dd, 9 for bedtime (though I suspect her story lasts longer than half an hour), up by 7.30. Which I suspect is why she's in perpetual angst

bigdonna · 09/02/2008 13:58

my dd8 goes to bed at 8.15pm and gets up at 7.45am.my ds 10 goes at 8.30 and woken up at 7.45.they both are allowed to read for 30-45 mins.

roisin · 09/02/2008 14:16

ds2 (nearly 9)
6.30 bed - reading time
7.30 lights off
8.00 usually fast asleep

7.15 wakes up/gets up

Scramble · 09/02/2008 22:49

6:30 bed time we are usually still eating dinner, my DD would still be activities most nights at tht time.

carmenelectra · 09/02/2008 22:56

ds agee 8 goes up at 8pm on schoolnights and i wake him about 710am for school.

Later at the weekend usually(9pm tonight) and he wakes later too, maybe 830am, though sometimes even earlier than a schoolday(which makes me cross!), or sometimes quite late in the morning.

emsiewill · 09/02/2008 23:27

Dd2 is 8, 9 in June, just gone to bed...(as has dd1)

School nights, goes at 9pm. dd1 (11) goes @ 9:15. Neither are asleep before 10 @ the earliest.

Both have to be woken @ about 7:30 on schooldays, dd2 up about 10 hours after going to bed on other days, dd1 can sleep forever @ weekends, she's hit her teens early...

Spidermama · 09/02/2008 23:35

9pm. 9-10 on weekend.

Gets up around 0830 - 9 at weekend.
