we went for a walk today and at the end there's a park, he had slipped going up the ramp to the slide and hit his left tooth, it's somehow been hit forward - not back, it's a little bit loose, we've been on the phone to 111 for an out of hours dentist but nothing, do i take him private tomorrow when it's open and see what they can do to help it? he can't eat much as he can't rip anything with his front teeth Xmas Sad i'm so upset

Is he in pain? If so have you given calpol? When my son did similar I forgot to do that!

If he is ok in himself and apart from being loose is the tooth in the correct position? Can you give soft food and see if your own dentist will see him on Tuesday?

I can understand how upset you are as I have been through it and unfortunately it wasn't straightforward in our case. Be kind to yourself, accidents happen.

i don't think so he's had some soft food and he's fine in himself, i might do i know sometimes they can fix themselves a little bit but it will need some help, i'll give him some calpol anyway incase. i hope your little one was okay!

DD knocked one of her front teeth out when she was just turned 3. Tripped on concrete at nursery.

She's now 5 and none of her other teeth have fallen out or her adult one started moving so she's had a big gap for years.

We spoke to emergency dentist who said as long as she isn't in pain and there's no infection then he didn't need to see her. We just had to keep an eye on it to make sure the other teeth didn't start moving to close the gap which would mean there wasn't room for the big tooth to grow in

Same experience here, dentist wasn’t bothered unless there was any pain or signs of an abscess. My DS’ tooth firmed back up, it was really wobbly when it happened! I can believe it didn’t come out. Then it went dark grey, then brown and no (3 years on) you can barely notice any discolouration at all now. Tooth is still in place.

Yep I had this with my daughter aged three, I was so upset when it ended up coming out but I’m used to it now, she’s had the gap for two years. It’s just a wait and see game as to when he adult teeth will come through. I did take her to the dentist but there wasn’t much they could do.

Give him soft puree food for a few days. the gum around the tooth may harden up and re secure the tooth, which may go a darker colour. Tooth may fall out. Nothing really a dentist can do unless it was broken.

Also apparently a good thing if it gets knocked forward or back. If it gets knocked upwards that’s when it can cause damage to adult teeth. Or so I’ve been told by our dentist!

oh that's good then, i don't think it was knocked upwards as he's hurt his chin and cheek on same side too so hopefully! toddlers ay Blush

My daughter knocked her front bottom tooth on her bed when she was two, was immediately very wobbly and bled a lot. It made it uncomfortable for her to eat initially, but gave calprofen and after a few days was fine eating everything normal (even corn on the cob) she saw her dentist for a routine appointment shortly after and they said similar to other posts.

It will either fit back into its socket and stay there till it's ready to fall out, or the injury will have killed off the nerves and the dead tooth will fall out. May/may not discolour.

Hers didn't discolour and fell out about 6 months later. Dentist said it shouldn't cause any issues when her adult tooth comes through as there's still the space for it.

oh bless her, i guess there's not much i can do but help it heal and if not that's what will be! i've been feeding him so he avoids using his front teeth as much as possible, he sucks his thumb at night too and he's devastated he can't for a while Confused

Hopefully he feels better soon.

Also, if it's any reassurance, I knocked out both my top front teeth by the time I was 4/5 and I was fine, just a bit gappy until my adult ones grew in!

What happened eventually, OP?
