Would you take to the GP for this?

DD age 7. No health conditions, generally a healthy child and always has been. I do have health anxiety and this can manifest in worrying about her, possibly still lingering from postnatal depression when she was convinced something was wrong with her (nothing ever was).

She's vomited a few times last year.

May/june-ish, a couple of episodes of vomiting - we later found out she had threadworm and I wonder if this contributed to it.

Had a 24hr tummy bug in August which clearly was a bug as it ran through the family. Then early December seemed to have some general virus with a high temp, tired, tummy ache and vomited once - lasted about 48hrs.

Night of Xmas day/boxing day vomited once - had been up very early on Xmas day and until late in the evening! So overtired.

Then vomited during the night last night. Again only went to bed at 1am - so again overtired. Completely well in herself today.

She's fine otherwise, not fatigued, no weight loss, no other symptoms apart from a couple of nose bleeds here and there but she and her brother have both been snotty during the winter as kids tend to be.

I don't think I need to take her to the GP?? Please be kind.

I would probably leave it if she doesn't have pain.

Some people are just more prone to being sick than others.

jaychops · 01/01/2023 14:38

@Mosaic123 thankyou. No pain.

It just makes me worry when I see threads on here saying 'my kids never get tummy bugs/vomit' etc etc

No I wouldn’t. It isn’t an excessive amount of sickness. You need to work on your health anxiety though so maybe book an appointment for yourself?

No. Over Christmas she sounds like she was on minimal sleep, very overexcited and probably full of food she wouldn't normally eat. I'm sure once she's back to normal in terms of school and routine she'll be fine.

Frazzled2207 · 01/01/2023 14:46

A few times in a year, no.

a few times in a week, unless it was clearly a bug that she was getting over, perhaps

Ds2 (now 17) used to vomit A Lot.

Overtired, anxious, angry, ill, you name it, he'd puke

Don't know if it's linked to the fact that he had a massive hernia when he was born (GP only agreed to refer him finally when ds was 5)

He's not often sick now unless he's had a really hard run or training session but when he was young it was a pretty regular occurrence

You don’t need to take her to the GP. That is within the normal range - some children are more prone to being sick than others . As a child I was sick when tired , ate too much, anxious, altitude sickness etc. I’m fine as an adult.

I’m a mother of two and a doctor . Your GP would reassure you with this story.

jaychops · 01/01/2023 15:53

Thankyou all, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply and it has reassured me. I do often need some support to rationalise my concerns.

In regards to my anxiety, I've recently weaned off my medication as I felt OK but I am closely monitoring how I feel and will seek support if necessary- which is probably likely as I am struggling at the moment.

I wouldn't worry about that level of sickness.
If she was completely in her normal routine and did not have any other contributory factors then it may be of some concern if it was more frequent.

But everything you've described has another factor which has caused or contributed to the vomiting, be it threadworm, a bug or too many late nights so I wouldn't be concerned at all.
