Car journeys

My daughter is 5 and still wets the bed every night. She has to wear pull-ups/nappies to bed. We have a long car journey soon and she often sleeps in the car. Do you think I should put her in her pull-ups in the car? I am worried because if she is asleep she might have an accident and ruin the car. We will be on a lot of motorways and I don’t want her to have to sit in a wet pair of knickers until the next service station. If she wears pull-ups in the car they could be useful in traffic if she needs a wee or even (god forbid) a poo.

How long a car journey?

How long is the journey? Can you schedule regular toilet breaks? But if she wears pull-ups and night I don’t see what the problem is with popping one on her for the journey just in case.

Pop a car seat waterproof pad down and then either schedule reguler servce station stops, or if it is at bed time then do pjs and pull up.

I'd use a pull-up for the journey. No harm done.

@Ursuladevine
About 10 hours, but without many rest stops. Luckily she can watch a film

Defo put pull-ups on her. Many children her age will be in the same situation: largely trained but still prone to accidents. I've read other threads on here about well-trained children who still wore 'travel pants' for long flights/car journeys. You can spin it in a positive way. Sometimes knowing there's a backup plan is reassuring and helps children manage. Encourage her to ask you to stop if she needs the loo. Praise her if her 'travel pants' are still dry at the end of the trip.

My own DD wore 'bedtime pants' for a long time after she was otherwise potty-trained. Her bedroom is a long way (+ up and down some stairs) from the nearest loo in our house.
Enjoy your trip.
