Stopping breastfeeding whilst recovering from mastitis

Hello,

I’ve decided to stop breastfeeding my 3 week old due to mastitis, it started 2 days ago, in the evening. My first symptom was strong painful letdown type pains after feeds on my left only, and then a constant tenderness on the left side of my left breast + behind my nipple - but couldn’t find a proper lump.
Ive been given antibiotics but I want to stop breastfeeding because my mental health is a complete mess. I have health anxiety which is extremely bad and the thought of getting mastitis again and maybe ending up in hospital etc just scares me. I had been struggling anyway with breastfeeding and I’m just not coping well at all.

I would love any advice regarding stopping breastfeeding in the early weeks and how to go about it. Especially with mastitis. I would like to stop ASAP.

Hi, I’m in the same position as you, did you manage to stop breastfeeding and how long did this take? Thank you

I can't give the advice you're wanting but I just wanted to let you know I feel your pain, I got mastitis and it was horrible, I have health anxiety as well.

I was treated with antibiotics and luckily never got it again, I'm still breastfeeding and he will be 3 in a few weeks. It does get easier!

Good luck and I hope someone comes along with some good advice! X

Wow just reading my post back is crazy, I can sense the anxiety I had!
After a few days I felt better and decided I would give breastfeeding one last chance. I never got mastitis again and baby only recently self weaned!

How are you feeling? Have you been prescribed antibiotics?
