Bed wetting

My 8 year old daughter has been wetting the bed a lot recently. She hasn’t had accidents in a year, we think it is because of some problems she has been having with the other girls at school. It has been a very stressful time for all of us, she has an accident almost every night and wakes us all up. I bought my first pack of cigarettes since we were trying to conceive to cope with the stress. We have tried everything, limiting fluids and waking her up to pee but to no avail. She just wants to wake up in a warm dry bed. Can you recommend any products or methods to make her sleep better.

when Mine wet I invested in really good water proof sheets and layered the bed so it could be changed quickly in the night to make it comfortable.

make sure she doesn’t avoid drinking because apparently that makes it worse.

sounds like it’s related to emotional issues and so I guess supporting with those as much as possible is what will help.

I recently used a bedwetting alarm with my 7 year old. He was completely dry within 3 weeks.

My husband and I have been considering pull-ups. Any thoughts?

Pull ups are good in the short term so everyone can get some sleep.

Take her to see your GP as well just incase there is a physical reason.

We have taken her to the paediatrician and she said there was nothing wrong with her. So, I think we will put her in pull-ups until she is no longer having accidents. Can anybody recommend any brands for pull-ups?

We use brolly sheets and they are really good. Can just whip off the wet sheet and put a new one on really quickly. We've saved many a mattress using them.

Buy a couple of bed mats and some extra PJs and encourage her to change her bed mat and her pjs herself if she wakes in the night. She doesn’t need to wake everyone up, washing can be done in the morning. She just needs to be dry again and go back to sleep.

Long term, keep waking her to go to the loo when you go to bed. My DC grew out of it eventually. I wouldn’t go back into pull ups for a child that age.

The odd thing is that when we asked her if she was ok with wearing pull-ups; she said yes. She said that she just wants to sleep through the night. I think she is sleep deprived which isn’t good for school. I got an email from her teacher saying that she fell asleep in maths.

It’s a difficult one. Thing is it’s common at any age to need to pop to the toilet in the night. I’m no expert and you have to do what is right for you and her but I think I’d be even less keen to put her in pull ups if part of her reasoning is so she doesn’t have to disturb her sleep.

The problem is, she doesn’t wake up until she has had an accident. We have tried bed wetting alarms but by the time she realises what she is doing it is too late. She is a very deep sleeper so we are hoping that if she wears a pull-up or drynite, she will just sleep through the accident. I don’t want her to wake up every night cold and soaked. She just wants to have a somewhat normal life. We will try pull-ups and see what happens, I am going into town to buy a pack of drynites today and we will try them tonight.

I would revisit the paediatrician or see a different doctor because clearly there is something wrong. That could be psychological and not physical, but an 8 year old asking to wear pull ups because she's desperate to sleep through the night is not ok. I would expect a doctor to give some advice at least or a referral to someone who can. There are things that can be done (counselling, medication, exercises etc).

My 8 year old DD is the same but mine has very rarely not wet the bed. Initially was in the middle of the night when she was 3Y/O but when that stopped it changed to mornings. She's a deep sleeper and so it doesn't wake her... At all! I got sick of washing the bedding and mattress daily. So we use bed mats with wings attached to tuck under her mattress. We use that ontop of her bottom sheet and have just recently started using the pull ups. We use the Ninjama pants. There is a bulk buy deal on amazon. Gets a months worth for £25 I think it is. Its been a life saver for us all. She hated that her bed was always wet and that it obviously annoyed me (as much as I tried not to show it to her). I know it isn't a solution to the problem but I couldn't not jump on when I saw someone was having the same issue as we are! I hope you're DD feels better about it all soon!

DryEasy Bedwetting Alarm with Volume Control, 6 Selectable Sounds and Vibration amzn.eu/d/61rxWBr

This one worked well for us. He's been dry since we used it back in February, apart from the odd accident when he's been ill.

I would ask for a second opinion from another Paediatrician or GP

Desmopressin may be your friend if GP will prescribe it - I was a bedwetter until I was nearly 30😥. No apparent physiological cause, but, as you can imagine, it made my life miserable. And then, finally, a Urologist prescribed Desmopressin and, voilà, a miracle cure for me which worked virtually instantly!

Sorry, just noticed that this is a zombie thread - hope you resolved things though
