DS HATES nappy being changed (18 months)

Hello

DS is nearly 18 months and for the last few months every nappy change has resulted in the absolute screaming abdabs.

Is this normal? Is there any way to stop it?

DS is generally a really happy, really chilled little boy. There’s not much that really upsets him like this. He’s in nursery four days a week, sometimes five depending on mine and DH’s work commitments.

I worked in the prison service for a few years and I know I am probably thinking the worst - I worked with the victims of horrible offences against children. So I am over worrying, I’m sure (I hope).

Any help would be gratefully received.

thanks

I think it’s normal! My little boy is 17 months and has been the same for a few months. Dirty nappies are another story, especially when he repeatedly slams his legs down against you/into the nappy. Horrific 🙈 Wet nappies aren’t as bad but still a nightmare. I change them while he’s standing up now, just try to get him when he’s standing at something and won’t walk away! We did use pull ups at bed time for a while and I was wondering about going back to them for day time since it would be easier to do while standing but it’s the dirty nappies in pull ups that I just can’t imagine trying to get off 🙈

Oh and just thinking ‘this person must of been on the August thread’, then read your name 😂 I’m on it too but my name used to be Sarah13xx 😊

See if he likes the potty. It might be Early but you never know! And yes, pullups rip from the side

puppydogg14 · 30/12/2022 19:34

@BCxx sorry hit the wrong button! Rip the pulls up down the seam on either side when your doing a nappy change, they open up like a regular nappy then.
I didn't realise they did this until my elder sister had hysterics watching me tryjng to wriggle a dirty pull up down haha

Needmorelego · 30/12/2022 19:40

Yeah it's normal.
He's a busy little chap. He has Things To Do and doesn't want to stop to change a nappy.
You just have to do it quickly. Standing up is usually better at that age. Pull up style nappies.
Also get a few potties to dot around the house. He might start being interested in sitting on them. Or he might wear them as hats.
This phase will pass.

LittleDragonRoo · 30/12/2022 19:42

Yes, it’s normal. Especially when they were busy playing and have been interrupted.

Try changing him while he’s standing up (easier with pull ups). Mine prefers this to lying down. Just get it done as quick as possible with no fuss.

RandomCatGenerator · 30/12/2022 19:44

This is all very reassuring.

We used pull ups before and I wasn’t impressed - I found they didn’t have great liquid retention compared to active fit.

When you’ve worked on the most horrible things for a while it warps your sense of things.

Understandable, I’ve worked in safeguarding for years and it can be hard to not over-worry based on the things you deal with in work.

Whaaat?! Mind blown!

SUPsUP · 30/12/2022 19:53

Yes it’s a phase. DS used tofight them so much I had to change him in the floor so I could pin him down with one leg! It goes away again

CoalCraft · 30/12/2022 20:01

DD went through a few brief phases of this between 10 and 15 months. It was more being made to lie on her back that she objected to rather than the change itself and once she could stand confidently unsupported we could do standing changes, then she was fine.

DaftyInTheMiddle · 30/12/2022 20:03

How do people change standing up? I can’t for the life of me do it 😂 16 month old DD is exactly the same. Easier to pin down and quickly do it than chase her around too 🙈
