Tips for night training 3.5 yr old…

DS has been fully day trained by 2-2.5 but still doesn’t go through the night without setting his nappy (he’s 3.5 now). I know the problem - he has far too much to drink before bed, which is at 7-7:30pm. However, he drinks like a fish (all through the day, not just evening) and I feel awful not allowing him to drink when he asks. He also finishes nursery at 6pm on the days that I work as is always desperate for a drink after, so that would also be an issue.

Any advice?

My advice would be too late. I doubt the drinking is the problem. The hormone that allows them to sleep without seeing will kick in

Thank you - it’s good to know that it’s still normal at this age!

Yes, it's got v little to do with drinking. The hormone is completely random and can take until they are 7 to kick in. Ds was totally dry by day at 2.5 but nearly 4 when he was dry at night and I felt that was quite good compared to many friends and family.

Drinking isn't the problem. My son takes water to bed with him. He's 4 now and if he needs a wee in the night he wakes up and goes to the toilet. Give it time OP it'll happen.

Thank you @Triffid1 and @GuinnessLover - I'm very clearly overthinking this one! I thought most kids were dry by 3-4 but obviously that's not the case! I'll keep on with the nappies for now and hopefully it doesn't take much longer (hoping DS is out of them for when new baby arrives in June but maybe this is a stretch, too).

Thank you all again 😊

Be warned, there will always be one smug parent whose child was dry at night age 2.5 who will give you "tips". Smile and nod. Smile and nod.

Lots of kids are still wetting the bed at 3/4 but you'll rarely meet an adult who still wets the bed! They all get there in the end 😉
