I have no hearing issues. The cot is right next to me in bed, it couldn’t be closer. I don’t think I am a particularly deep or light sleeper, just average.

But when my two month old wakes, i know I sometimes fall asleep again without getting up and I am confused as I don’t know if she cries a little then stops so I fall asleep or whether I fall into a deeper sleep and ignore her? Last night she fell asleep at 11:30 and then I woke at 4am to her crying and I fed her. But in the past it’s been feeeing every two hours or so which has made me wonder if I am blanking out her cries or something? I’m so worried I am damaging her mentally by leaving her, how can I know? I am alone so just me here.

If she was really distressed you would definitely hear her!

Mine started sleeping a lot better when they moved into their own rooms but I think this is partly due to the fact that I didn’t hear every murmur and I only woke up when they were actually hungry and properly awake!

Sounds like she just had a longer stretch. If she needed you she would keep crying and you would hear it. You are likely exhausted so if she only moans a little it’s not waking you enough but as I say, if she needed you, she would cry. My little one was a very noisy sleeper if I woke up at all her noises, I’d never have slept. You will get through it😀

Agreed, you would hear constant crying! I'm a particularly deep sleeper and sometimes it took a couple of minutes before I was conscious enough to respond to my son.

Also I found that very often I would awake to having my hand on his tummy in the next to me, so obviously he had made a noise and in my sleep I'd moved to let him know I was close. (I vaguely remember actually moving my hand, but obviously lost consciousness again when he calmed down).

He's a happy 17 month old now :)
