Fussy Eating/Family Meals

Totally at a loss with feeding little ones and now partner has gallstones and has to have a low fat diet which means no pasta bakes, easy oven teas or pizza etc as they give him so much pain!

Little ones are pretty fussy, 2 1/2 and 1! The younger one will try everything I put down at least even if he doesn’t eat it properly he’s still young so I’m not as worried about him but the older one won’t eat anything that has any kind of sauce or noticeable spices on it he says it’s dirty haha. Also won’t eat veggies or try a new dish I put down, pretty much loves plain pasta chicken dippers pizza the usual beige food they shouldn’t have too often! Older one does eat eggs which is good, youngest won’t never has but I still try.

I’m now trying to think what do I do for meals that doesn’t require us to make 3 or 4 different things so that everyone can eat 🤦🏼‍♀️ my partner will obviously cook his own stuff if I handle me and the kids but I still don’t know what to buy for everyone in the shop haha!

I think the main problem is that low fat diets aren't advised for toddlers unfortunately so catering for your DH and the DC might need you to be a little creative, like adding olive oil to their food.

I had quite a lot of success with my lovely little lunchbox.
Serve something beige you know they will eat alongside something new. No drama. Sticker chart for trying something. 10 stickers per food gets a treat of some sort. Keep sauce separate but hve it in a pot or something for dipping.
Raw veg as a snack - put it within reach when they're watching tv and leave them to it.
Think about intake over a week rather than daily. If they eat a lot one day they'll eat less the day after.

@PritiPatelsMaker that is a good point, they’re good for eating cheese and drinking milk so that makes me feel a bit better! I’m more than happy to have two different meals it’s just thinking of things the eldest will try

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale Thank you, I have been trying the offering his usual foods along with something new and he will ask what it is and I’m always honest and say do you want to try and he always says no and I just leave it at that but he literally hasn’t tried anything I’ve offered he’s a determined one 😂 I may just have to keep going with what I’m doing and hope it works eventually and hope the youngest doesn’t get as fussy haha!

These days I don't even provide proper meals to my toddler. It's just usually a trio of something. Some of my successes as examples...

  1. Egg with little onion in wrap, cut into small squares, cut up apple, some crisp
  2. Rice cooked in stock with mild spices, chicken shredded on the side, little dipping sauce
  3. Cubed potato cooked in air fryer, fish finger or veggie finger or chicken tenders, sweetcorn or peas.

Muffin trays or sectioned plates are awesome for this!!

I'm a huge believer in bite sizes for toddlers as full blown portion just seems overwhelming.

Good luck!

@HS1990 They are good ideas actually thank you!

It’s so hard feeding toddlers isn’t it 🤦🏼‍♀️
