When did you last give paracetamol and ibuprofen?

Crimsonripple · 22/12/2022 17:04

You need to give the antibiotics a chance to kick in. Just keep up the fluids and medicine.

SilverGlassHare · 22/12/2022 17:05

Try calpol (ie paracetamol) instead of ibuprofen. It’s more effective at reducing temperatures, I believe.

Antibiotics take at least 48 hours to work. But they only work on bacterial infection so they shouldn’t have given them.

His fast heart beat will he as a result of his temperature. Are you alternating nurofen and calpol?

LeadingStar · 22/12/2022 17:07

How old is your son? Has he had calpol and neurofen? How's his breathing? Any rash? Is he alert? I would give something to bring the temperature down first and if you can't bring it down or you're still worried call 111 for an out of hours appointment.

When did you last give paracetamol and ibuprofen?

I always thought that too but DD2’s high temperatures seems to respond better to nurofen.

PeonyRose80 · 22/12/2022 17:07

You need to give alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen and it will take a good 24-36 hours for antibiotics to kick in

miraveile · 22/12/2022 17:08

Alternate calpol and ibuprofen. You can give them at different intervals, to keep the fever down. You don't need to bring it down but if it makes everyone more comfy then do it. But seek medical attention if your gut tells you, you know best.

NishaaS123 · 22/12/2022 17:18

He is breathing properly and has no rash on body hasn’t got a cough either just says his throat hurts when I ask him.
I have just given him calpol before o was giving only ibuprofen.
he’s never had such a high temp so I am just panicking as a first time mum.
