Good family meals/book recommendations

FTM and I've always been shit at feeding myself. Luckily been blessed with good genes so weight and fitness has always been fine - didn't help snap me into healthy eating though...

Baby is 7 months and started weaning. Purees so far and he absolutely loves it.

When I do cook, I've always been ok at it (im told my Sunday roast is spot on) but my problem is more ideas... I have Sunday roast and spag bol and I run out...!

I dont want to be a lazy mum, and I'm so keen to get on it with nice healthy meals. I mean I know baby can't pick up a knife and fork and munch away yet but I want to start as i mean to go on.

Ideas for good dinners/book recommendations please? I've got weaning books but looking for family dinners so I can start getting ideas.

Thanks in advance lovelies ❤️

I really like a DK book called Feeding Your Baby Day by Day. It's not go anything earth shattering in there but does build you up from weaning (BLW and purees) to toddler meals. It literally gives you daily menu, and the recipes, but you obviously don't have to stick to it completely! I used to use it loosely to make sure I'd given a good variety, so if it suggested a beef based meal but I was using a pouch or had something else beefy in the freezer I'd use that. Pouches used as a sauce with other things is another handy cheat for days when you need it, btw.

I found a lot of the BLW recipes are a bit faffy for when you're short of time int he week but they have good things that can be batch cooked and frozen, ideal for after nursery if little one has had tea there but still needs something before bed. For that I really like the original Baby Led Weaning cookbook. I'm not saying BLW in response to you puree weaning btw, I mix weaned both of mine, but they are good books for recipes for when you get beyond the first stage however you do it.

This sounds dramatic but has changed our weekly meals for better:

Curry Legend Cookbook Kit amzn.eu/d/h5OLMTD

I also have the mezze one. I now have about 4 friends who have bought the kit and it's amazing, my mum bought us this one as she has it too! I should be on commission.

Really "authentically British" curry recipes and the spice mixes you need. The other ingredients are straight forward to buy and the recipes are very simple.

So we now do a curry or two once or twice a week, a chilli with all the trimmings we turn into quesadillas for another day, grilled salmon with cous cous salad or something and a pasta dish or two.

Fay Ripley- Fay's family food. And any of her other books tbh!

Really simple to make and tasty food that the whole family from babies to adults can eat - so no need to cook separate meals for anyone!

I really like the River Cottage Family Cookbook. Lots of great easy recipes and the writing around it is fascinating.

I second Fay Ripley - her pavlova!

I'm going to say get a good classic cookbook.

So a saint delia complete cookery course or a Tamsin day Lewis tampons kitchen bible.

Do you have to provide your own tampons, or is it like with the curry legend kit, and you get them on a subscription?

Ha. Perils of too early and no glasses

I really like Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food. All the family basics but best is how to build salads, I still find that useful!

Other good "family" books I have are the Little Dish cookbook, the 5 O'Clock Apron book, and Nigel Slater Appetite.
