How likely will 8 week old get strep A?

My 2 year old has strep A, she was very poorly with us but 2 days in taking antibiotics she’s turned a corner and is so much better. Me and hubby have now developed sore throats but I’m really worried as I also have an 8 week old! I’ve read that babies under 1 still have mother’s immunity so unlikely they will get it but I’m not sure if that is applicable if the illness is already in the household

does anyone have an experience of older DC having it and younger baby being fine?

My 5 year old got strep (not sure if strep A or not but he was quite unwell) when my baby was 4 days old and she didn't get it.

I was meticulous about keeping them seperate though, and I also didn't cuddle my 5 year old while he was I'll, plenty of hand washing etc. I explained to him and that was it.

Doctor told.me it was unlikely that a baby would get it but not impossible so practise reasonable caution.

Try not to panic (I know this is difficult) and crack on.

Take extra hygiene precautions and act quickly if baby gets a temperature or rash.
Unlikely that baby will be affected, (especially if exclusively breastfeeding?) but not impossible.

Thank you for responses. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to keep away from 2 year old, she’s been going hysterical for me and we’ve had to pin her down to get her to take antibiotics it’s been awful 😢

I am EBF and starting to wear a mask around baby now in the hope that he won’t catch anything from me now! Washing hands frequently and even having a shower when 2 year old coughs and sneezes all over me!

I don’t know how any mother can isolate herself from her unwell child and not give him/her a cuddle. Good for you for not going down that road.
Hope your child recovers quickly.

My 4 year old had scarlet fever 2 weeks ago and my 11 month old didn’t catch it. This is despite her touching his face, drinking from his straw and me having to cuddle them both at the same time.

By putting the wellbeing of children ahead of emotion.
I am immunosuppressed because of medicine I take for rheumatoid arthritis. I had had a cesarian 4 days earlier. My baby was 4 days old and my 5 year old son is intelligent enough to understand "illnesses are catching, you are a big strong boy and Mummy loves you but I can't cuddle you right now, but soon I can."

More a "trying not to end up hospitalised and leaving them without their primary caregiver, keeping a newborn safe" than a "being a cold hearted bitch" kind of set up. 🙄

My daughter has Strep A currently and I read somewhere that it's unlikely to be passed around households - it's a bacterial infection as opposed to a viral one like covid. As long as they're not sharing a dummy and you're taking the normal hygiene precautions I wouldn't be too worried but obviously keep an eye out for any symptoms!
Hope your eldest is feeling better soon
