3yo picks side of thumb.

My DS who's 3 has a habit of picking the side of his thumb. I always tell him to stop doing it as he's making it so sore. It's really red (not infected) and I've been applying cream.

He sits there and does it without even realising he is doing it. I've tried covering it with a plaster but he doesn't like having plasters on so will take them off.

It just looks so sore and I don't know what else I can do/try to make him stop.

Any suggestions?

My 3 year old is the same, to the point that her thumb is infected and she's on antibiotics and back to the Dr tomorrow. Our pharmacist suggested the nail biting stuff when it's healed so might try that.

@Blueyismylife it's horrible isn't it! He doesn't even realise he is doing it. I did think about that but thought he doesn't put his thumb in his mouth so unsure if it would work.
Hope your little ones thumb is better soon x

Are they biting or picking at it with their fingers? My 3yo kept biting the skin around her nails and making them really sore so, we got some of that paint on 'no more biting' stuff (can't remember the exact name but, I just paraphrased on Amazon and it came up) and that has done the trick for us!

I wish I could help but my 12 year old dd has been doing this since she was 7 years old. She doesn't even realise she's doing it until I tell her to stop. It's looks so sore.

We used a ‘thumbsie’ for my daughter to help her stop sucking her thumb and that might work?
