Does anyone have any hints or advise as to how I can help my DS? Year 7 and recently started to have work related melt downs. He is bright, capable and no other issues. School are being great, but worried I am missing some way I can support him. tia!

Is it the pace, the quantity, the expectations - its just different causes might have different solutions.

Fear of failing /making mistakes can be hard too. Have you heard of the 'wreck this journal' its a book which my perfectionist son foundcreally useful. Good christmas guft?

Generally though breaking things into smaller chunks and having boundaries so there is time for rest, sports and socialising so that there is something ither than school work to focus on.

All of the above suggestions and another suggestion would be to give him vitamin supplements, especially those with Omega 3. It's good for brain function and balance especially in young children. Is he sleeping well?

Thank you @Itakechargeofmyhealthwithscience he is sleeping like a log! I should have said that he is 11 and exhausted by the start of new school. He was fine until he got over tired then fell apart!

Of course, school can deplete children's energy. I would still suggest upping his omega 3 and vitamin c (helps with iron binding=energy) and protein and fiber rich diet. I hope your little boy feels better very soon.

I was not doubting you @Itakechargeofmyhealthwithscience i was just trying to answer your question, I am so grateful for your advice. It seems good sense advice with nothing to loose. I had been wondering also about gut health as there is evidence that that can effect mood and anxiety.

@Outlookmainlyfair I am sorry if mys answer came across as if you were doubting you. It wasn't my intention; I am happy to help 😊. You are right about gut health however slow and steady is better. If he likes greek yogurt I would offer it with a mix of nuts (no allergies I hope) as a daily snack. It helps with the gut flora.

One saying I read in a book once and I like to remember (as a recovering perfectionist) is: "done is better than good". Teach him about doing a "bad" first draft/first go of his assignments etc. And then he can always improve it later but at least he's gotten past the first hurdle of just getting something done. It will hopefully help him take some of the pressure off.
