Vitamin D

My daughter's got a 6 week old baby and her health visitor has told her she needs vitamin d drops daily as she is fully breastfeeding.
I don't remember our kids having these when they were little - when did this become a recommendation?

Yes this is the correct NHS advice. The reason it’s just for breastfed babies is because vitamin D is added to formula. I’ve used Baby D Drops.

It's actually recommended that everyone has a vitamin D supplement, including adults. When baby is over 6 months they should have a supplement including vitamins A,C and D. The Healthy Start ones from Superdrug were the easiest for us.

At least 11 years ago as I remember being given them for my ds.

I gave them but I know a lot of breastfeeding mothers who never got around to it so don’t worry too much:
I also used the ones you drop onto your nipple and often wondered how much of it made it into her mouth anyway,

The advice changes so much - when I was pregnant the midwife recommended a glass of stout at night and liver to build my iron up 😂
