4+ nappies HELP

Hello! My DD is 5 months and weighs 15lbs. I’ve had her in size 4 nappies overnight but these keep leaking. I have bought some 4+ to try as i thought these are just the same as 4s but more absorbent but I’ve just noticed the minimum weight is 20lbs. They literally look the same size to me but I don’t know if they will be too big somehow and then leak because of that?? Trying to decide which to put her in for bed tonight!!

Have you tried pull ups instead of normal nappies?

We always found them much better to be honest. The Sainsbury ones are good, as are Fred and flo (Tesco) and pampers active fit are also good :)

Maybe you need a smaller size? I know sounds weird but could be as leaks can happen if too big too. My 2 year old is in 4+ but granted she's quite small for her age

Ignore the weight indications, they aren’t accurate especially for long thin babies. Just try up and down and try different brands until something works.

@2020firsttimemum i haven’t tried pull ups so thanks for the tip!
@70billionthnamechange she is in size 3 during the day with no prob. But these were leaking overnight. And it’s because they were completely full up. She has one feed at night so I could change her nappy then but I don’t want to ideally because of how much it will wake us both up lol. I just assumed size 4 would hold more wee and the same then for size 4+. The size 4 seemed full of wee too so maybe she just wees loads overnight?? I don’t know if the size 4+ will be too big for her. But it looks the same size as the size 4 which she is at the lower end of. The size 4s/4+s do seem like they would fit forever weight wise!!

At 15lbs and 5 months old, I reckon you need size 3s not size 4s and that they are probably leaking as too big. Also you don’t mention it but just in case - if baby is having a lot of night feeds still then going through on one nappy probably isn’t realistic and they will need a change. The other obvious things to check for- frills out and no tight vests.

Hohoholdon · 02/12/2022 18:39

@Eixample that’s interesting. She is quite long and skinny so would that mean bigger nappies than the weight indicated??

X posted with you… what brand of 3s have you tried? I found pampers active fit the best for overnight.

Eixample · 02/12/2022 18:42

It did for my two, and for other people I’ve talked to. They were always a size further up than their weight suggested.

PenguinLove1 · 02/12/2022 18:42

If the size 3 fits fine during the day, you don't need bigger nappies for night you need to change her! Why would you want to leave her in a full nappy overnight if she is soaking right through?
Keep lights off, room warm, very quick change of nappy after her feed and she will be fine.

Hohoholdon · 02/12/2022 18:44

been using aldi nappies which are fine during the day. Think I will get a pack of pampers to try and the pull ups too. Obviously a lot more expensive but if I only use them at night they will last ages. Think I will try a 4+ overnight tonight, worse that will happen is a leaky nappy which happens anyway! Thanks all :)

My 11kg almost 3 year old is in size 4 nappies during the day and 4+ overnight so I would say they are too big for her and that's why she's leaking overnight.

Hohoholdon · 02/12/2022 18:46

@PenguinLove1 hmm good point. It’s just so easy at the moment as I am breastfeeding so just bring her into bed feed to sleep and then transfer her back into the next to me. I barely open my eyes. But if I can’t find a solution then of course i will have to stop being so lazy!!

Ignore the weight guides! Both my two (1.5yr old and 3yr old) weigh around 12kg and I have them in a size 6 pull ups overnight. 3yr olds is dry mostly at night but if she's feeling lazy and does pee when she wakes up then it's so giant it needs the 6 to contain it. Going by the guides a size 5 would fit up to an average 7yr old, which seems unlikely!

Same thing- Try Pampers Active Fit nappy pants in a size 3. I know more expensive but if they work it’s one nappy a day as you can keep the Aldi ones for daytime.

Pampers definitely leaked less for me, try a size three pampers and if it doesn't work then just keep a spare on your bedside table and do a quick change as she is lying next to you on the bed, i wouldn't bother with the whole wipes, cream etc unless she was dirty, just a very quick dry nappy and back to sleep

I had the same problem with my DS nearly 6 months, who is a big boy (9-12 month clothes) and the Kit and Kin nappies are the only ones which can hold his wee overnight! Pampers leak all the time! They’re not cheap but stopped him waking him up from being wet!
