Nappy changing

My baby is only 5 days, when I change him I've had to change the whole baby grow and vest because he has leaked however, the nappy doesn't seem full or the colour in the nappy hasn't changed blue to indicate it's full. I'm not sure if its sweat or the nappy is too big. He weighs 6lb 2oz tiny baby!
I change him every 3/4 hours less if he's done a poo.

Do you think it's sweat? Or do I need smaller nappies?

Advice please.
Thank you!

The nappies probably not tight enough, different brands fit different baby body shapes, so it might be worth trying a few (just supermarket own brand is fine, but if you can get to a few different shops it'd worth shopping around)

make sure you are pulling out the wingy buts at the legs out all the way round that made a big difference to me.

Is his penis tucked down? (Sorry if obvious, it sometimes isn't.)

I'll try that with the wing bits on his legs.
Yeah I point his willy down. I've got Mamia nappies and I had a free pack of pampers.
Do you think I need to change him more regularly?

I usually encountered leaks when I needed to size up, not down. But with your newborn I'd be guessing they are too big or not pulled up enough so there's a gap. Are you using the pampers size 0 ones? They still fit my 8lbs newborn for the first week or so.

As for sweat, this would show in sweaty armpits and back + dry nappy, possibly flushed cheeks.

Your changing interval sounds fine but if the nappy isn't catching urine his skin may not be happy with it in the long run.

They may be too big as his so small. Make sure you do then up tightly. It won't be sweat that isn't a thing

Oh I used Mamia nappies once when we were in a different county and they were awful! Sainsburys own brand and Pampers are much better. Some nappies are just plain shit.

Where are the leaks happening? If it's a nappy leak you usually can trace it to the top of the front of the nappy, top of back, or one leg.

madmeadows · 02/12/2022 17:23

I found that we got leaks no matter what we tried until our baby got some baby chub to help create a seal if that makes sense

SimpsonEJ · 02/12/2022 19:35

The only nappies that worked for us were Pampers. They’re more expensive but you’ll save on the constant clothes washing!

Teaandcrumpets95 · 02/12/2022 19:49

When my baby was small I folded the top of the nappy to make it thicker so there was less gappage.

Definitely make sure the wings are pulled out at the legs.
