School absence

My ex intends to take our DS out of school for a holiday. Its already booked. I don't really agree, but I've had to walk such a tightrope with her, I don't want to rock the boat and she tries to stop our time together. Last time it cost me £20k to go through the courts. Shes not yet applied to the school and I expect that they will say no. She'll take him anyway. Can the school do something about it in advance if they were to know about it? If I do nothing, to keep the peace, will I get fined? I'm in a dilemma and don't really know what to do.

They can do nothing and they are unlikely to even fine unless it’s a child who is persistently absent. The LEAs don’t have the capacity to fine everyone around here.

The school can't do anything apart from fines - and both parents have to pay, even if you don't agree.

I get that you don't want your child missing school, but why deny them a holiday? Maybe it's the only time your ex can get off of work, or the only time/way they can afford a holiday.

Do you really want your child to know that daddy stopped them from going on holiday? That's just going to cause issues between you and your child.
