teething cause cold?

is it absurd that i've never heard that you can supposedly come down with a flu or gain a coke from teething?

10 month old is starting to teethe what looks like both his front top teeth, he's also been getting quite unwell lately over the past month or so? mil mentioned that DH used to get colds everytime he teethed, is this common?

i'm starting to worry that DS is getting sick a lot, perhaps the 2nd time this month, and we don't often leave the house?

is one associated with the other? should i be concerned that he's getting poorly so often and contact gp?

Usually when they’re teething they put their hands in their mouth more often, so are more likely to pick up illnesses. It’s a normal part of building up immunity though, nothing to worry about.

Why don’t you leave the house very often?

Nothing to worry about I would say. Children get colds, winter is when RSV and colds are at their peak anyway. As pp said babies put their hands in their mouths when teething. I've never heard of teething causing a cold though.

Fresh air is good for children (and adults) and doesn't cause colds

by very often, i mean, i've recently recovered a chest infection and whilst that time we hadn't left the house much, which is why him getting ill again became a little alarming. and thank you, i'll keep that in mind!

DS used to always get a bad tummy (cos of the extra drool I believe) and then a week or so later there would be a cold. I think all the parts of their wee systems are so interlinked when they're little. Even lack of sleep affects their immune systems.

that's very true, DS hasn't slept properly the past two nights, so irritability is high at the moment, hard to tell when it's from his poor nights sleep or from teething!

Oh that makes sense. I was just worried that you weren’t leaving the house because your were scared of the baby getting ill!

Once babies are mobile they just pick up everything for a couple of years unfortunately. My DS was the same.

The main things to see a Dr about is a high temperature, refusing to eat or drink, ear infections (discharge coming out of ears). If it’s just endless snotty colds there’s not much that can be done except calpol or nurofen.
