Tips for getting a toddler to take antibiotics?

I've got a bottle of glorious amoxicillin for my 2 y/o little girl to take for her scarlet fever, but I was informed there is a national shortage of the nice yellow flavour so this one looks and tastes horrific.

Any tips for how I can get her to take the medicine? She's point blank refusing and pinning her down and squirting it in her cheek results in most of it being spat out!

Thanks

Is it the red stuff? It's vile. My ds got prescribed the yellow one today.

Are you allowed to add it to a drink?

omg my 2 year olds the same, been struggling to give her antibiotics for the pastes few days. Most of its she spat out or all down her clothes. I've tried pinning her down and but don't work... so if anyone had other ideas pls let me know aswell...

Hide it in yoghurt or a bit of honey / bribe with chocolate/ tell them it's special medicine the doctor needs them to take to make them all better?

Can you mix it with juice? Or let her have an ice lolly before. The cold will numb her tongue and reduce the taste.

You could try mixing it into honey/golden syrup/melted chocolate/milkshake (or some other thing that you won't mind her possibly developing an aversion to)

A second person to help with the pinning down and squirting might help. If you can jam her mouth shut quickly after you've squirted it in (cat medicine style) and try to do it in 1.

@DuvetHugger yes the red stuff! It's horrendous 😩 I used to love licking the spoon of the banana version but not this one!

So sorry to say we had years if this 😫😟we had to use two people to pin DC1 down, one was holding arms and head and one squirting and closing mouth. It was torture for everyone but nothing else worked.

Bung it in a cup of smoothie and tell her it's dinosaur juice a la Peppa Pig. I once had so much trouble getting DS to have it that I added a fancy curly straw and a cocktail umbrella 😁 it did the trick though! Hope your little one feels better soon

@blackandwhitecat123 that has really made me chuckle 😂 I'm sure I have some of those umbrellas hiding down the back of the cupboards!

The last one we had was vile and juice or yoghurt on it's own wouldn't disguise it enough. We had to do an incredibly sweet mixture of yoghurt and one of those puree baby fruit pots and stir it all in really well. On nursery days they managed to just squirt it in his mouth with no fuss - they have magical powers lol but if your little one attends nursery could be worth seeing if they can do any of the doses for you.

My boy had the yellow 'banana' version the other week for a viral infection. It was absolutely vile so god knows what the red stuff actually tastes like. I had to mix it with yogurt for him to take it and I don't blame him one bit, yuck :-( l
