way's to keep children entertained in the buggy?

My child is constantly tell me he is bored when we go anywhere with the buggy, I've tried to stay away from screens when we are out but he's getting too old for the baby toys that clip on. Anyone got ideas suitable for 3 to 4 years but doesn't matter if it's lost?

(Is he facing you?) Chat to him? Point stuff out?

Rosalindisafuckingnightmare · 26/11/2022 15:44

How far are you going in the buggy? Can he walk instead? Or scooter/balance bike?

Probably talking to him, playing games etc. I spy, counting red cars/yellow cars. Can he spot the letter his name begins with. Pretending? Can he pretend to be a firefighter/paramedic driving?

We do I Spy a fair amount. But I mainly give him snacks.

Have them face you and do that retro thing of engaging with them

Is the buggy essential? We stopped using it at around 2 and a half. As above, walking keeps them busy! Or get a scooter. We keep busy chatting, just talking about what we can see really - dull conversation for sure sometimes but entertaining enough for a 4 year old 😄

Talk to him
Point things out
Pick out a colour each and see how many cars you can spot in your colour
Play I spy (do colours if he doesn't yet know letters)

Unfortunately we need the buggy right now. We can walk miles as a family and little one is on Iron medication for anemia.

Pointing stuff out and I spy are the best things. But I'd also try having him pretend to drive.
Fill a little back pack stuff which he can be in charge of, fidget toys are good for older ones in the pushchair.

We look for vehicles, count the lorries, cars, emergency vehicles etc. My son is obsessed with vehicles though so he's very entertained by that. Or we just talk about anything else we see.

Was there need for this attitude, really?

I've had some good ideas so thanks to everyone else.

Just remember to keep him included with the rest of the family. He's saying he is bored but he's probably tired, ratty and exhausted. Maybe a blanket so he can nap and get his energy back?

Scavenger hunt
Toys
Play dough
Snacks
Singing songs

Mine love to collect things as well, like leaves, pebbles and sticks

Sprouttreesareamazing · 26/11/2022 21:36

I spy. Never too young really...

Latenightreader · 26/11/2022 21:36

My just turned 4yo plays 'yellow car' near obsessively and loves I spy. Could you hand him random things you come across - leaves, sticks etc? My daughter loves examining things like that.

Sherrystrull · 26/11/2022 21:39

My dc much preferred a smart trike to a buggy. They can pedal and many of them have a switch to turn the pedals off as well.

machanicalmovement · 27/11/2022 10:04

You could make a bingo card with pictures of things he has to spot, we do this occasionally on walk.

Blainesmaries · 28/11/2022 11:51

Thanks for all the suggestions. It's a case of going back to being in the buggy after some time of not using it so we are out of practice.

If this is a long term arrangement, does his buggy have a tray? If not you really should buy one to attach, it makes it far easier to play with toys and bits, he could even do some drawing.
