Health visitor?

I’m nearing 6 weeks pp and still have a lot of heaviness/discomfort ‘down there’ - something doesn’t feel quite right & has been getting worse. is it within the health visitor’s remit to have a look when she visits or would I scare her off and should wait for 8 week GP check?

GP.

GP - every time. Don’t wait for your check. Make an appointment soon. The Health Visitor will only refer you - not all of them are ex nurses or midwives.

Another vote for the GP

GP.

Cannaa89 · 26/11/2022 08:53

Yes GP. Depending on your symptoms, could be a prolapse? I had one post partum and it was managed swiftly and easily by pelvic floor exercises

PritiPatelsMaker · 26/11/2022 09:33

Do you have a female GP that you could book an appointment with?

Ukholidaysaregreat · 26/11/2022 09:35

I second female GP. I have found male GPs to have limited interest in 'female' problems.

hpphhp · 26/11/2022 09:53

GP/nurse practitioner. Health visitor 100% will not take a look! And don't wait, get booked in as early as you can (don't be fobbed off with a appointment in 3-4 weeks. All surgeries have to offer 'emergency' appointments so make it clear you can't wait). I'm not suggesting there's anything seriously wrong or to worry but it's just not something to delay getting seen to and getting resolved early so you aren't uncomfortable and can enjoy your baby.

frenchie4002 · 26/11/2022 13:59

Thanks everyone. I was seen yesterday and she said didn’t look like a prolapse and cervix etc feels in the right place but to do more pelvic floor. I upped the anti then woke up this morning in proper pain - loads of buldges in vagina now and no longer heavy feeling but severe swelling and discomfort. Hurts to stand, sit etc. kind of feels on fire. So upset and uncomfortable. To call 111 or another gp appt Monday do we think? And anyone experienced anything similar?

what kind of bulges??

Moonshine160 · 26/11/2022 14:16

What do you mean by bulges in the vagina, OP?

frenchie4002 · 26/11/2022 14:29

@LapinR0se bulges and lumps of varying degrees/shapes/sizes from entrance all the way back. Not really sure how to describe them. The whole thing all the way up feels heavy, swollen and hot

I would call 111 for advice on this one.

frenchie4002 · 26/11/2022 14:46

Thanks @Moonshine160

My prolapse wasn't cervix but was actually the vaginal wall and i had a bulge in my vagina. It was diagnosed by obstetrics as I was only a few days post partum, do you still have access to the maternity triage?

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/11/2022 15:54

That doesn’t sound right. Can you contact the midwives team?

WellThisIsShit · 26/11/2022 17:48

That sounds very wrong, almost certainly needs some medical care of some kind? I’d make an urgent appointment at a drop in clinic , dooming though the wait may be, you want to keep pushing about this kind of thing, to get the care you deserve

frenchie4002 · 26/11/2022 19:18

update - I called 111 who advised a&e but couldn’t manage the long wait in the crowded room with the baby. Have been advised to go back first thing tomorrow to be seen by on call GP. I also noticed one of the bulges has a red/inflamed lump - kind of like a boil? - so wondering if that is the main culprit. It’s just horrible and worrying. Hope I can get some answers tomorrow🤞 Thank you all for the advice.
