Hi,

So my 12 month old has recently has his 1 year jabs which were about two weeks ago. For the past 6 or so days he has had awful diarhea so ive just been washing his clothes / sleeping bags on repeat which is a bit of a nightmare. And im talking explosive diarrhea, very wet always leaking out the side of his nappies etc... He is also very clingy, even more so than usual, so if some part of him is not touching me he gets very upset until i pick him up.

In general, he is eating all of his food and drinking all his milk as usual, nothing new he has been given except more cows milk but hes drinking it fine. When im in sight and playing he seems like his usual happy self.

So basically, this whole explosive diarrhea is worrying me as i feel like this is too much to ignore. Would this likely be due to the jab as it was 2 weeks ago? I took his temp and it is normal..

Thank you! Just a bit worried is all...

What advise has your doctor or health visitor given you

It could be the jabs or it could just be a bug. This is the nhs advice - I think once you get beyond day 7 it would be worth contacting your GP or 111. As long as he’s still eating and drinking it sounds like he’s ok but you don’t need to wait for the 7 days to get medical advice if you’re worried about him. In my experience the GP is always v.quick to call if you tell the receptionist you are worried about a young child.

Main thing to watch out for is dehydration- you can give put some dioralyte in his milk if you think he’s losing too much fluid.

ps: my son had chronic diarrhoea due to a bowel problem. His gastroenterologist prescribed dioralyte from when he was much younger than 12 months but you can buy it in chemists/supermarkets. If you’re unsure about giving it speak to a pharmacist.
