How have your children made you proud this week?

Our speech delayed 3.5 year old DD has really turned a corner in the last week or two, suddenly saying 3/4/5 word sentences after only saying single words for a long time. There have been times when I thought this would never happen, I feel so proud 😢

What lovely things have your children done to make you proud recently? 🙂

Congrats to your daughter, OP.

Mine just learned to clap haha. And we had our first no-throw meal this morning. Nothing on the floor or walls. I dunno if I'm proud or just relieved not to have to get out the mop for the first time in months lol.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 22/11/2022 10:05

Oh well done to your little girl! How fabulous!

MiddleParking · 22/11/2022 10:07

@ChillysWaterBottle the food throwing days feel like they last forever, I feel your pain! You have to celebrate these small wins 😄

@Anotherdayanotherdollar @MiddleParking aww thank you so much! I could listen to her speaking all day 😍

What a lovely thread 🥰 OP your daughter sounds wonderful, and what a joy for you to see this progress. It must feel transformative.

Our daughter amazed me this week by putting all her animal puzzle pieces together correctly in the order I asked her to do them. She seems to be a sponge in terms of receptive language at the moment - incredible how quickly they learn!

youcantry · 22/11/2022 13:35

@HereComesBaby2 that's lovely and yes you should be chuffed. Well done to your daughter 👏
Mine haven't done anything to report this week, but as they are adults, I don't expect them to, but I'm proud of them none the less. Pleased for you and your determined DD

youcantry · 22/11/2022 13:40

Re the speaking - be prepared for one day that you'll hope they stop firing questions at you every two minutes and non stop chattering so you can't concentrate on even preparing dinner . It's a great achievement and you are very entitled to feel proud of yourself also 👏💐

Santagiveyoursackawash · 22/11/2022 13:46

Asd ds14 has managed to bin his toxic gf.
Ds 8 has an important sport try out tomorrow- but he has gotten man of the match 6 weeks in a row so is a star to us anyway!
Dd17 asd started her college placement and loves it!
Just 1 dc to sort out now....

BeaLola · 22/11/2022 13:59

DS14 being thoughtful (rather than eye rolling) and helping out

Enjoy your little one talking OP - one day they too will be a teenager Grin

PuttingDownRoots · 22/11/2022 14:03

DD9 is making real progress in her sport. Becoming a lot more resilient (and general consensus is she'll be a real asset to the team in a few years when she moves to the Girls team... she has to play Mixed for a couple more years)

DD11 emptied and reloaded the dishwasher while she was home alone as she noticed it needed doing.

NCFT0922 · 22/11/2022 14:04

What an amazing milestone! Well done your DD. You must be so emotional!
Baby DD has crawled this morning and I spent a while crying (happy tears) about it!
DD(9) got 18/18 on her spelling test yesterday.
The boys managed to get through an evening without a single argument; quite the achievement 😂 they’re 5 & 3.

LesOliviers · 22/11/2022 14:20

Well done to your daughter! That's fabulous.

We have a very difficult time getting my 4yo DD to brush her teeth without an argument. I'm proud because yesterday morning I asked her to brush her teeth before we left the house, and she just went and did it! A small thing but a victory nonetheless 😊

Danikm151 · 22/11/2022 14:23

My son actually kept his mittens and hat on today for the walk to nursery! 😄

BankseyVest · 22/11/2022 14:28

My dd has had some exams at school (year 10). She's doing so well and never gives me any hassle with school.

We also had a good, loud, sing a long in the car, and I thought how lovely it was and how much I love her as a person

She's turning into a lovely person

Mumoblue · 22/11/2022 14:36

My son, who will be 3 in January, sat with me and read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” from start to finish. I only had to help him with a few words.

His reading is really amazing, but I don’t feel like I can talk about it with anyone IRL without coming across as braggy or talking about areas of development which he struggles, to show that I know my kid isn’t perfect. But sometimes I would like to just say, my kid is a fantastic reader!

sleighbellsjiggling · 22/11/2022 14:36

My 3yo sat with a little boy at preschool this morning and gave him a cuddle as he was crying. I was so proud of how sweet he was. He was still holding his hand as I left 🥹

MassiveSalad22 · 22/11/2022 14:38

DS age 7 - picked for football tournament at school and has arranged some Xmas decorations beautifully here

DS age 5 - reading really coming on

DD 7 months - learnt to wave and crawl! Proper crawling after a month or so of trying. Go girl!

Big week here hey!

thefuturesnotourstosee · 22/11/2022 14:44

DD (17) - has recently split up with her boy friend of over a year but she's pulled herself together, thrown herself into her school work and started doing much better on tests - she only started at her new school this term so it's been hard for her to adjust but she's doing it. She's also tutoring a couple of girls in the year below for maths.

DS is going through 11+ entry exams (independent) He is very bight but has SEN but even so against expectation has managed to get one scholarship and a borderline interview for a school that is notoriously tough to get into (about 700 applicants to 90 places) . He also passed the 11+ itself but sadly probably won't get offered the grammar as his school was a bit less than he needs.

Both of them are wonderful and I'm really proud of them

HereComesBaby2 · 22/11/2022 14:49

So lovely to hear all of your children's achievements!

My daughter who has a inner core of steel but has to push through the anxiety wall to get there, is on her first Uni placement at a school, she intervened in 3 fights, helped with lunch for 100s of primary school children and helped her little group table with reading and writing.

Flickerflash · 22/11/2022 14:56

My nearly 2 year old who isn't saying words properly yet but understands everything, has started recognising letters and can point to the correct one when asked.
He also spontaneously gave me a kiss when I wad making him laugh which makes me well up just thinking about it!

Mollyplop999 · 22/11/2022 15:01

Hopefully there's no age limit on this thread! My daughter(37) has just been accepted for a new job in the police. She's had some difficult times and I'm so proud of her that I could burst 😁. Plus I've got covid and she's got up at 5 to feed and muck out our ponies before taking the kids to school and going to work for the last week .

HereComesBaby2 · 15/04/2023 14:21

Reviving this thread as I loved hearing about your children's achievements and sharing my own!

My DD now almost 4 is currently pending an ASD diagnosis which is likely behind her speech delay. Despite this, she is saying new words and phrases all the time. Her biggest achievement as of last is that amazingly, after many failed attempts over the past year, is now toilet trained after cracking it over Easter weekend! So proud of my DD and quietly hoping she will be able to thrive at a mainstream school in September 🙂

That’s lovely @HereComesBaby2 ☺️

DD (just turned 8), who has been a book-avoider for a long time, has completed the entire Harry Potter series in 2 months!
This was a girl who refused to pick up a fiction book at home before this year, and only read at school under duress

F1nit0 · 15/04/2023 15:08

DS slept through the night Friday! First time in 6 months. It didn't happen last night but that one night was bliss!! (Other than waking in a panic because he hadn't woken and checking he was still breathing)
