Hello fellow mums, do you have any advice on starting potty training and any extras to get?

Bribery (or rewards... Whatever you prefer to call it🤣)

Doggy training mats, or drynites bed mats to put under the potty. It helps when boys forget to point their penis down.

Foldable toilet seat for outside trips
Cotton training pants on Amazon that are leak proof (never bought them in the end but nearly did)
Flushable toilet wipes
Flannel in the kids bag in case legs get wee on them
Stickers

I set up a Pt corner in my lounge and had a huge box with undies, trousers, etc whatever I needed for the first week or so next to the potty. Really helps when you have numerous accidents and don't need.to scrabble around for things

I'm afraid the number one be useful thing is the right kind of child!

DS took about a year and a half of pain and failure to toilet train. DD is just... doing it? She's had maybe 4 accidents in as many weeks and she is definitely getting the hang of going by herself.

You need to get a sense of when they will need to go, and take them at that point. If they are a kid that fights you all the way that is really hard. If not, it's as much about training yourself to remember, as it is about training them.

I found training pants confused my DS and were never leak proof anyway! Much better to just let him feel the consequences of an accident in normal cotton pants and learn from it.

Must haves:

Potty
Potette for out and about... also doubles up as a small loo seat
Reward system (sticker chart worked well for us)
We also bought a loo seat with a fold down mini seat for children... it definitely helped DS feel more comfortable using the 'big loo' as he didn't need to focus on balancing and staying on (this is why the potette is helpful as a converter seat for out and about)

A child that is ready is the most important thing, make sure they're showing signs first or you're fighting a losing battle. We had to stop until way after 3 with Dd1 because we tried too soon so not rushing with my 2yo.

Then lots of towels in the house and a warm house so you can let them go around in no clothes. Spare clothes when travelling. We used pull ups when training but I know they don't work for everyone.

And then lots of praise and rewards when they get it!!! Good luck
