Have strangers commented on the gender of your children

So my baby sensory class leader actually brought up this conversation last week, she has two boys and her sister has two girls.

The one with 2 girls gets a LOT of ‘omg so cute’ ‘girl gang’ ‘best friends for life’ ‘amazing’ comments from strangers

2 boys on the other hand is a LOT of ‘you’ve got your hands full’ ‘wow TWO boys 😖’ ‘are you going to try for a girl’ - even when answering no to this she had a ‘aw are you happy being a boy mum? What about when they’re older’ 😮 even a ‘aw are you not sad you’ll never have a daughter’

Do people actually say these things?!! I have 2 boys myself and I will admit I have had a few ‘you have your hands full’ comments, but the others seem full on horrible? Should I start preparing myself now 😅

I have 2 boys and 2 girls and get comments about having my hands full

When my dds were a baby and toddler a man asked if the baby was a boy or girl. I said girl and he said "Never mind you'll have a boy next time" 😃Didn't bother me I just laughed

Well, I have three sons, now grown. I'm sure you can imagine the comments I used to get <sigh>

These days I get 'wouldn't it be nice if you have a granddaughter one day'...

I wouldn't change my fabulous boys for anything. For some reason I always had a preference for having boys, which some people appear to find very odd.

I have three girls, two in reception and one nursery aged. I don't get gender related comments often at all . Until recently when I was asked by a woman at the library if they are 'bitchy' to each other. When I said no because they are too little for that, I was told to wait two years and the 'cattiness' would come. She also suggested that I should try for a boy to even out 'all those hormones'.

Im over 50 and until about 20 years ago I'd always got the impression people preferred to have boys. My dad was one but he had girls. Does anyone else think there used to be a preference for boys not girls?

People will comment whatever you have, it's just to fill the space and it's not like anything to take seriously. I don't know why people don't fill the space by saying "how do you feel about that?" Or literally anything that's not projecting, but that's just habit I suppose!

We have 3 DDs and my DH is Chinese, in which culture there is traditionally a preference for boys, so I lost count of the number of times people commiserated with me over my lack of boy children!! But I took it in good humour

Santa thought my one year old in a floral coat and pink shoes was a boy the other day Grin
