Introducing a baby to things/routines

I’m not sure if chat is the right place, but didn’t know where this belonged.

DH and I are getting ready for our firstborn and I’m (over)thinking about routines and how much change is a good thing, eg with swaddle/sleeping bags, do we need to stick with one brand? Do we try a few and then stick? Is it irrelevant?

I know with bottles people say not to buy too many in case your baby doesn’t like that brand, but how long do we give one brand before trying a different one? I’m looking at Black Friday offers and wondering if it’s worth buying a few Minbie, Mam, Medela etc?

Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hi @QueenOfWeeds
The Parenting, Sleep and Infant Feeding forums are all great places for info! 🤗

Thanks - will ask for it to be moved.

Swaddle - you just need a giant muslin or flat cot sheet.

Sleeping bag - doesn't matter which you get. Just watch for winter/summer weight ones

Bottles - it's unlikely to make massive amounts of difference.

I am overthinking it then! Good to know :).

Swaddles - I find the swaddle sleeping bags much safer than using a muslin or sheet, especially if you have a wriggly baby ( mine easily escaped any traditional swaddle). Some like Love to Dream have the arms up and others like Tommee Tippee have the arms down. Your baby might have a preference (mine liked the arms up better) so maybe don’t buy too many of one type. Also don’t buy too many until you know the size of the baby eg Love to Dream’s newborn size will already be too small for some newborns.

Sleeping bags - I’d just buy the swaddle type initially. Some of these can also be used as normal sleeping bags with the arms out too. I regret buying the other ones too soon as they still haven’t been used 4 months in.

Bottles - only used one type so not sure. We use Mam ones as they can be sterilised in the microwave without a stand alone steriliser.

Massively over thinking.

Sleeping bags are great for winter babies. Aldi have a baby and toddler event coming up soon. Their sleeping bags were really good.
