Please help I'm really struggling with my 31 month old son. He has no patience none whats so ever. Every day, every journey, every nighttime is a struggle it's like he bullies me. He will purposely drop his teddy/crayon/dummy/toy or whatever and cry and winge and gurn on repeat until he is passed it back. He will not wait which is difficult if driving and also if at he he will even refuse to pick things up himself. He wakes multiple times a night crying for his teddy which be just slightly out of arms length and would cry and shout teddy repeatedly for an hour solid if given the chance or if me or my partner didn't eventually give in and pass it that whole inch to him. It is seriously wrecking or relationship and driving me to just want to run away. Its sounds stupid but everyday this goes on for hours and everything he is asked to do its always 'no' he will purposely sit and kick the chair laughing despite being told to stop or kicks or hits and I guess I just want to know is this normal? And how can I do things differently to try and resolve it?

Have you tried not caving and just getting on with your day despite the moaning and yellin,g?

You need to ignore it. He’s doing it because he knows he will get a reaction. He’s almost 3, not a baby.

I've got a son similar age, if my son wants something which is in his reach, I will not get it for him, i have no need to if he can reach it himself. Same as if he drops something, he's more than capable of picking it up, and he does that just fine.

The issue is your son doesn't do it, because you're there to do it for him, stop. He won't cry about it forever. You're giving in to make it easy for your child, and hard for you with the habits you're forming.

What's his communication like?
How is he when you are platings/he's getting positive attention?
How is he with other kids?
Does he sleep? Burn energy?

Sorry for the late reply. I have tried ignoring it but the whole family is tired and getting frustrated with him. He keeps us awake at night with it and drops the teddy on purpose to get attention and start it all over again. His communication isn't great - he went to a children's centre to help develop his speech as they commented he was crying or getting frustrated himself because he was unable to put together words. He can ask for his needs i.e. food, drink, play with cars, ask for park etc. He is apparently not like this at all in nursery. He's good around kids he doesn't know but will hit his older step sister and me and my partner its like he sees it as a game and even starts kicking and laughing. He does have a nap still in the day but its worse if he doesn't nap. Even the morning routine when I say first get dressed he will run away screaming and crying and kicking if you try to make him do something that isn't on his terms. I dont understand where as a parent I feel like I've gone wrong

I found 'how to talk so little kids will listen' and Janet Lansburys podcasts on Spotify and website really useful.
