What would you do? Toddler bumped forehead just above eye brow

5 min before leaving the house to take my 15 month old to nursery he ran straight into a cupboard at full speed. He cried for a bit but not long. He's got a bump and it's become a bit blue but I didn't monitor him for long. I had a stupid (important) meeting that I had to attend so iced the area for 5 min or less (he didn't really let me do it). He seemed perfectly fine (except for the bump). Then I dropped him off at nursery, told them about the accident and requested them to keep an eye on him.

Now of course we have got second thoughts. Should we have taken him to a n e? Both dh and me are snowed under with work, with important deadlines coming up and I can't really afford to spend the day at a n e. But of course that means nothing if there's a risk of serious injury. Uggh I just don't know what to do. I'll call the nursery in a bit to ask how he's doing but would it be safer to take him to a n e? I don't want to call 111 as they always ask me to go to a n e anyway. Also, I's have to pick him up first as they want the person you are calling about to be with you.

I don't know. I rushed to a n e every time with my older one but have become.kore confident with the younger one but is this the one time when it actually is necessary? If he seems fine does that mean he is fine? And should I trust the nursery to watch out for concerning symptoms?

Ugggh. And am I horrible to be so concerned about work instead? I really should have iced the area properly shouldn't I?

I think I'll call nursery in an hour and if they say that the area has swollen up terribly or become very blue or anything else is out of the ordinary I'll ask dh to take him.

I should have really kept him home for a bit longer to observe him. I just didn't want to miss my meeting again. I've missed so many days because of him being off nursery that I'm struggling to make my deadlines..

Unless he’s showing signs of concussion he’ll be fine. A&E won’t do anything other than give you a leaflet to watch out for signs of concussion.

That's what I told dh. That's what happens every time. Surely if it had been serious he would have cried more? He wasn't in shock as he did cry but quickly calmed down..or am.i just rationalising?

I wouldn't take to A&E for a head bump unless they were out of sorts, vomiting, unusually sleepy, obviously in pain etc. Nursery would notice any of these things, so a check in with them at lunch is probably fine.

I think you are worrying unnecessarily. Skulls are fairly durable and stand up to normal childhood play. I smashed my head on concrete playing on the bars outside the local convent on my way to school. I knew my mother would have really told me off so with my primary school mind I thought it best to stagger off to school with an enormous lump on my head. I don't think my mother ever found out about it. (I have professional qualifications so I don't think it diminished my IQ significantly.)
