im planning a naming ceremony for my daughter on her first birthday and was wondering if anyone has done anything similar and if they had any ideas for the day i could pinch?!
also has anyone elses partner been at all interested in helping to plan something like this because mine cannot be A*D and told me to organise it! he cant even manage to write down who he wants to come from his family so at this rate it'll just be mine! are all men like this or am i in a minority??!! x

I was thinking of doing the same thing so will hope this bump get us both some suggestions. In my head it all happens in a lovely sunny garden but as our garden currently looks like something you see on Neighbours From Hell, I don't think that will be happening.

As for your DP - how far away is your DD's birthday? Remember, for most men Christmas planning starts on Christmas Eve.

We got the family togetehr for a tea party and before cutting a cake DH said a few words along the lines of
this is our son please welcome him to the family.
Very low fuss day (apart from MiL panicing about what plates to use!). used disposable crockery to minimise washing up, used village hall as too big a group for sitting room. MiL made Big cake my mum made small cakes, we did the savoury stuff. SiL do drinks BiL did pictures.
So we have pics of boy with his great grandmothers, grannies and his sort of cousins. Was good to get every one together for something that wasn't a funeral or a wedding.
Men and family event planning just don;t go, its generally teh women who end up sorting it all out. I'd assume he wants the same width of his family at it as yours so invite them even if he doesn;t give you an actull list. he can always veto befor you post them.

thank you for all your tips and advice, and thankyou for the link, i will probably be pinching some of the bits from it! i just hope it goes smoothly, i have ideas in my head of a kind of 1950's kitsch tea party with cakes on every table and swing music in the background...however how i see it and how it turns out is two totally different things! x
