Aw pody, I know exactly what you mean. I'm not suggesting you do this for a moment, but we erected a spare cot (dd1 was in a cotbed by this time) in the living room, I kid you not. Just to protect her from dd1 (who was then 14months).

There must be somewhere safe within earshot, surely?

Do you have a pram?
We have used the pram or a moses basket for ours. Made sure we knew where the toddler was and didn't leave toddler on own with the baby.

we used the carry cot bit of our travel system with ds and the pushchair fully reclined with dd when they were babies - mind you I didnt have a 17 month old toddling about at the same time!!

we used to let dd sleep in her bouncy chair and then ds read books when she was asleep

or we carried her gingerly upsatirs to the moses basket

we also let her sleep in the pushchair and car seat and left her asleep in the kitchen or back garden if it was nice

Moses basket on sofa (with foot stool thing which is same height as sofa in front of basket). Car seat/buggy if DS2 fell asleep in the car/buggy. Baby chair- not a bouncy chair, one of the Chicco ones that can sit up or recline. This was on the floor if just DS1 around, or on the sofa if other kids were visiting (extra mums then to watch that they didn't pull him off).

Mind you, DS1 was 2y3m at the time, so he understood not to knock DS2 over.

A friend had a graco travel cot with a bassinet attachment in the front room which she used for her baby. It also made a handy changing station. She kept all the baby 'stuff' in the travel cot underneath.

Hi all, thank you for all your advise I like the idea of the travel cot with the bassinet, I am going to look into this.
thanks again

do you have a pushchair with a carrycot? that's where ds slept in the day time or he slept in his moses basket upstairs which was on a stand.

My DS is 10 weeks and I let him sleep anywhere he will...
