Is it just me that is a part time cloth user?

I don't mean to be, and I have enough nappies to last 2 kids 2 days but sometimes I just can't be arsed, I run out of nice fluffles and can't be fannied putting AIO's together, or I can't find a clean wrap, or I haven't put them back in the nappy box and they are all over teh dryer so I can't be bothered to go and get them.

I must stop it, I used to go through a pack of dispies every 3 months for emergencies and holidays but now I am using one a fortnight, and the wipes? they are so expensive!

Help me!

Imagine how much more it would cost you if you never used the reusables though

I use disps at night, and if I'm out all day and if I'm feeling really lazy.

pinkspottywellies · 29/01/2008 22:08

A pack every 3 months is more what I use. Why not have a big sort and get back on track? It's ok if you keep the washing routine going

ChirpyGirl · 29/01/2008 22:23

That's it though, it';s the washing routine that wears me out!
I am okay once I am sorted but then I ahve to try and put them all away in the box with DD1 'helping' by taking them out and putting them on all of her teddies, and then getting the bag of wipes out and cleaning them up!
Cue pile of unsorted nappies and me going mad!

I think I need to get rid of the AIO's as they just piss me off with all the faff!

And why can I never find a nappy nippa when I need to? Half the time I look for one, can't find it, so just cave and grab a dispie!

i use disposables at night for my ds so i am a part-timer of sorts! But they are nice eco-biodegradable ones so i don't feel so bad

GColdtimer · 29/01/2008 22:32

I am a part timer too, I have just got out of the routine of it. And she now goes to nursery/nanna a couple of days a week and so I end up all over the place with my washing.

Excuses, excuses I know but I just think oh well, for every washable i use, it is one less dispie. And some people NEVER use washables so I can take the moral highground over many others

Have I made you feel better?

Octothechildherder · 29/01/2008 22:36

Save the money you would spend on disps on yoruself - thats a good incentive!

ChirpyGirl · 29/01/2008 22:41

twofalls, thats what I tell myself, I do 2 days on, one day off with cloth/dispies, so I would be using loads of nappies, plus I get lazy and the dispies stay on longer than a cloth so I use less than I should anyway

It shoudln't be this hard, everything is either kept in teh kitchen (washing, drying and nappy bin in a cupboard) or the sitting room (storage box) so it is a matter of 4 or 5 metres to put them away!

ChirpyGirl · 29/01/2008 22:44

Coto, it would be a good idea, but the money I spend on dispies is my money as the housekeeping budget doesn't include nappies!
I can't ask DH for more as I spent ages telling him how much money I was going to save by spending 2-300 quid on nappies!

Washersaurus · 29/01/2008 22:44

I've got 2 in washables full-time and do find the washing is a bit of drag sometimes; no sooner than I have sorted and put all the nappies away, the 3 buckets are almost full again. BUT, I did do part-time for a very brief period with DS1 and found that having to keep going and buying the damn disposables was more of a bother!

Octothechildherder · 29/01/2008 22:46

Chirpy - thats even worse - spending your own money on disps! Think Benefit, Clinique, haircut ....

ChirpyGirl · 29/01/2008 22:48

Oh, Benefit!
I have banned myself from our Debenhams store so I can't walk past the counter as they still recognise me!
Am on verge of banning myself from Lush.....!

im pretty part time too.

much as i adore the cloth (nothing like the fervour of a late convert), they bloody things do leak and need changing more often than dispies. and at night, there is NO combination that is reliable.

on the plus side, he spends a lot of time without any nappy at all and is really pretty good at using the loo. (which actually makes me doubly lazy, coz i shoudl just go on and finish the toilet training job and get rid of nappies altogether, but i cant be arsed sometimes!)

you know what? there are bigger things to worry about.

Liz79 · 29/01/2008 22:54

my friend uses disposables because she thinks washing would be a faff, she bottle feeds. I breastfeed and use washable nappies, I think making up bottles would be a faff. Quite frankly I couldn't be arsed with that lark. tis horses for courses. DD is 6 weeks old, we have used 2 full packs plus 12 from an unfinished pack but we have been away twice, 5 nights in total.

Washersaurus · 29/01/2008 22:56

Snappy - you just haven't found the right combination yet - my nappies very rarely leak, honestly!

I am envious of your toilet using DC. The only thing that DS1 has used his potty for is hiding stuff in. DH has been looking for his watch for days now. When asked if he'd seen it, DS said it was in a hole. DH just found his watch in the potty

Octothechildherder · 29/01/2008 22:56

I'm sorry but I find disps leak much more than cloth nappies without a doubt. If you know what you are doing and have the right system they are brilliant. There are loads of great night time nappies and combinations that work. I have tried most nappies out there tbh and I use fuzzis during the day and onelife at night and have no leaks. This weekend he had diahorrea (sp!) and I thought that maybe a disp would cut down on the washing but the poo just shot out in every possible direction and I ended up washing mountains of clothes, grobags, sheets etc - NIGHTMARE - I put him back in a onelife with a wrap and NO leaks.

((climbs down off horse and wanders off))

Washersaurus · 29/01/2008 22:58

I'm with you Octo!

FlameNFurter · 29/01/2008 22:59

Oi - I have a thread for you Snappy - will bump (very distressed at the idea of your leaky nappies though.. they shouldn't)

It doesn't matter if you use part time or full time or just once a month - anythign is better than nothing

miarosemum · 29/01/2008 23:00

i admit to being a part-timer as well although only use disp as nighttime and at childminders so not that naughty! but naughty enough...

SnappyLaGore · 29/01/2008 23:03

lol at hole.

i have at least 20 different types/designs/makes/sizes of nappy. honestly, i am so over nappied its ridiculous.

i suppose the bamboo beehinds are about the most absorbent/least leaky, but even then, if you chuck him in a car seat and hes been wearing it for an hour or so, the pressure will ofen make a leak at the sides or legs or summink. and they all do that...

Washersaurus · 29/01/2008 23:04

Then you must have the wrong wraps . Are you using motherease? they don't leak.

Octothechildherder · 29/01/2008 23:08

Yes - def crappy wraps - motherease a must whatever your nappy!

SnappyLaGore · 29/01/2008 23:14

what thread? where?

fletchaaarr · 29/01/2008 23:16

Without wishing to jump out of the wanted threads and face wrath, if any of you have too many nappies and want rid, I want some

SnappyLaGore · 29/01/2008 23:16

but i am using motherease. [sob] [incompetent]

SnappyLaGore · 29/01/2008 23:17

fletch, i will bear that in mind.
what are you after? size-wise at least...
