My daughter is almost two. For some background, shes very clearly had CMPA since she was born, but was 10 months when we finally got the GP to agree despite my son also having CMPA. Completely refused two formulas to the point of hospitalisation and then found one she would accept.

Now under dietician but they've said when she gets to two the formula will stop but I still need to give her some milk of some kind, and this is where my issue is.

I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of and she just will not accept any alternative. I know she needs milk of some description but I just don't know what to do.

I've got the HV ringing later on so I will speak to her about it but I'm at a loss. Any suggestions welcomed.

For reference, tried all the oat/soya/almond milks in supermarkets, I've bought soya formular and mixed with what she has now, and I just can't afford to buy the formula she's on now once the prescription ends.

Nutramigen 2

I had bother with this. My DC was breastfed, but had zero interest in anything other than breast milk. We needed him on oatmilk as he had a nut allergy and soya allergy in addition to CMPA. I just started mixing them with the ratio initially being like 10% oatley barista, 90% breast milk and increasing until he would have a cup of oatley. Maybe worth trying a similar phasing out project?

I've just read a really similar question on the Main Group - CMPA Support page on Facebook.
Suggestions were:

  • milk isn't necessary if they're getting 3 other portions of calcium per day;
  • chocolate Oatly;
  • Littlesteps SMA plantygrow milk; and
  • decaf tea - 4oz of water and topped up to 9oz with unsweetened almond milk.

Would recommend joining the group as there'll be lots of others in a similar boat!

We've tried the phasing out thing and only been able to get away with 7oz formula 1oz whatever we've tried to swap it with, any more then it gets refused 🙄

We've tried the chocolate oatly which she didn't like and she definitely doesn't get enough calcium because she's such a terrible eater 🤦‍♀️ I've seen the plantygrow but at this point I'd spent a ridiculous amount of money on other things that didn't work but I'm going shopping tomorrow so will get some to try.

I'll also have a look at that group thank you!

Ps can you tell we've been at this for a while 🤣

Also for reference she's very low on the centiles but to be fair was a low birth weight too, so she doesn't really have much weight we can afford to lose if that makes sense!

Similar but slightly different situation. Breastfed 9 month old diagnosed with CMPA, wouldn't take amino acid formula so had to breastfeed until we got him onto something else at 12 months. Wasn't interested. In the end I just had to cut him off. Threw his cup of oat milk across the room every time he was given it for 17 days. Flavoured with vanilla essence, still threw it. Then on day 18 he gave in and is now obsessed. Luckily he is a good eater though so I appreciate I had the comfort of meeting calcium need through his diet. It's tough. Hang in there.

Can you get the milk in through porridge?

Have you tried KoKo Super? Has to be the super version though. The others don't have good enough nutritional value

My son also couldn't have dairy or soya, he refused all milk apart from breastmilk and still only drinks water. He has had a calcium supplement, as that was the best way to get calcium into him. I recommend talking to your GP about a calcium supplement.
