Do you get a gift for a baptism?

Wasn't sure which forum to put these in but the child is 7? I'm not Christian but wasn't sure whether it's appropriate to take a gift and/or what gift?

Yes, you normally give special life-long gifts for christenings and baptisms. Things like special bibles, jewellery etc.

A graphic novel version of the bible might be good for a 7yo.
DS got a tankard with his christening date on it and his name, which gets regular use.

For a 7 yr old I would be much more inclined to get them something they would like rather than something religious or lifelong. When my son did his first holy communion my mum bought him a Lego set.

Yes.

Absolutely. Our local Christian shop has little bits for boys and girls. Plus I put a tenner in a card which they seem to love more than anything!

my son was 7 months and many people offered money/clothes/and other general gifts. you don't always have to offer something religious, especially at that age, they'll more appreciate something they're interested in. if not a small religious gift is often found in many places if you're not sure on a personal gift!

If you are not a godparent, then a gift is optional, but most people would give either a small gift or a card.

If you're not sure, then I think the safest option is a nice edition of a children's book.

Money in a card seems to be the standard option for DH's family (my family are not religious). Godparents might by a trinket of some sort.
