Tips for first trip away with 4 month old baby

We are taking our first trip away to see extended family with our 4 month old and am slightly nervous. It is only 3 nights with 4 hr drive each way (plan to stop every 90 min or so). Any tips for what to pack (or what not to pack)? Our boot is quite small and the pram is quite bulky so we don’t have too much space. Anything in particular you regretted not taking with a baby this age? We are staying in an AirBnb.

I went away this weekend just gone for the first time with our 4 month old daughter. So v similar to your situation!

The only useful thing I have to say, though, is that we coped fine. Packed way more than any pre- baby break!!! But we were fine. We just needed the basics.

Didn't use the pram at all because it was a walking, rural type break. Just used carrier lots. With a big raincoat that covered both of us.

I was worried that she wouldn't sleep in her normal cot but she did 🙂

And she's quite a high needs baby in my opinion, too. Good luck x

Ps if you are breastfeeding I'd recommend taking whatever you need to feel comfortable feeding in front of extended family. I didn't do this much in front of my other half's family because I thought they'd feel uncomfortable. But I ended up feeling a bit out of it and just feeding on my own most of the time. I could have just used a muslin and fed in front of everyone I think.

We just recently went away for 3 nights with our baby for the first time too. We also have a small boot which was dominated by the pram! Basically we just had to pack really light for ourselves and prioritise her stuff. One thing I did which was handy was a food order to the holiday cottage which included nappies and wipes, etc so that saved a bit of space! Enjoy your break :)

Get a travel buggy - we have a cheap silver cross one that has lie flat and was suitable from birth. We've used it on countless trips, slung in car boots & planes. Its probably a third the size of our regular buggy when folded. Friends have the babyzen yo-yo which is even smaller but we couldn't stretch to that or find one second hand.

I take the absolute bare minimum of stuff for me & DH and extras for DS, especially on a short trip when you don't want to be washing anything. I do always travel with a gro black out blind though. I found pre mobile to be a great stage to holiday because they can't really go anywhere!
