Toddlers tongue making his face sore?!

Thought it was impetigo but it's gone on for a month, hasn't spread and is where he has his tongue hanging out! When he's a bit nervous or shy he puts his tongue out and it's always in that spot. I've been sneaking bepanthan cream on it once he's asleep but he won't let me put anything on it in the day. What can I do? I don't know how to make it better as he won't put his tongue away! It's not constant obviously but enough that now it's sore it won't get better. Does he need doctor for a stronger cream?

My DS had a similar patch in the same spot. Dr said impetigo but actually the cream she prescribed only cleared it by 90% - good old sudocrem finally got rid of it.

Notjusta · 08/11/2022 19:25

Sorry meant to say I put the sudocrem on last thing at night so it had the longest chance to work.

littlemanmum · 08/11/2022 19:27

Ah I was slathering sudocrem on nightly and it didn't seem to help so I've just last night switched to bepanthen in the hopes that would do it! I don't think it could be impetigo if it's not spread and has been there for so long? Perhaps I'll get a GP appointment just for a second look then. Thanks!

Looks like the kind of dry skin you get from wetness? Would putting Vaseline on it discourage him from sticking his tongue out?

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 08/11/2022 19:28

It doesn’t look like impetigo.

littlemanmum · 08/11/2022 19:29

Yes that's what I think it is just like you get chapped lips if you lick them and they're dry, I think it's gotten dry and the more he's licking it the more it's drying out and making it sore but how do I get rid of it without chopping his tongue off?! Grin

Ah fair enough. My son's was more scabby 🤢 but also didn't spread. I was surprised when Dr said impetigo. He was prescribed an antibiotic cream.

You could also try hydrocortisone cream?

littlemanmum · 08/11/2022 19:30

If I put any balm or cream on whilst he's awake he rubs it straight off! If I point out he's putting his tongue out he does it even more too so at the moment I'm totally ignoring it and hoping he stops doing it and putting cream on at night, but it's not stopping him.

Looks nothing like impetigo. It jist sore skin from his tongue like you say. Keep pitting the cream on, eventually he'll grow out of it

SilverGlassHare · 08/11/2022 19:33

DS used to get this every winter - I’d pop some Vaseline on to protect the skin and that usually helped.

CatSeany · 08/11/2022 19:43

It just looks like a bit of dermatitis from saliva. I'd put some hydrocortisone on every other day for a couple of weeks, emollient as many times a day as you can, bepanthen at night makes sense to barrier it.
