Nearly 1 year old - morning bottle advice

Hi all,

I have a nearly 1 year old, I'm slowly switching her formula to cows milk. Currently we get up, have formula and then breakfast a bit later on.

I'm just wondering more so for when she's off formula...should I still give her morning milk and then breakfast or just straight into breakfast? Thank you.

At that wage that don't need so much milk.

DS didn't have any morning milk from about 9/10 months as he didn't want it.

Age not wage 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just give cows milk in a cup with breakfast. Make your life easier!

As pp I offered milk in a cup along side breakfast

I personally believe in the child leading things. She will drop the bottles when she’s ready. My LO literally decided overnight he didn’t want a morning bottle anymore

I’d just bring her breakfast forwards. Give milk in a sippy cup at the same time unless she’s having it on cereal and then I’d give water instead.

Our son has a cup of milk with his breakfast.

We still give milk first thing upon waking generally, so a little before breakfast, our DS turned 12 months a couple of weeks ago. We did this with our DD too. She used to glug down her morning cows milk which she had cold in a sippy or straw bottle from being around 13 months old, she still had I think about 6oz of milk. DS otoh I have been giving it cold in a sippy cup the last week or two and he is lucky to drink 2oz of it now. This seems to be more because it's not in a bottle, but want to start moving him off the bottles now for his teeth.

The exception is: often DS still wakes in the night and has cows milk in a bottle then, so if he's had 'night' milk 5am or later then I don't bother offering him more milk upon waking (he will wake anywhere between 7 and 9am then). If he's had it prior to 5am then I will offer again in the morning, I only offer 4oz now as he's lucky to drink 2oz anyway. In the night I offer 4oz warmed cows milk in a bottle if he wakes up and cries for it, and he drains that and goes straight back to sleep.

My eldest is 4.5 and still has milk with breakfast. Until about 6 months ago she used to have a 165ml cup of cold cows milk, then additional milk on her cereal. But then she wanted to pour her own milk on, so I fill the cup about 165ml, she uses probably half or so for her cereal and then just drinks the rest, so less milk overall. She has about another 165ml cup of cold cows milk before bed still too. She's always loved her milk whereas DS has never been that bothered about it.

Well when my two were babies they were awake at 6am and I wasn’t about to start faffing about with breakfast then so they had a bottle of milk and ate breakfast later on. so maybe it depends on what time your dc wake up and your morning routine in general.

Tbh they loved their bottles anyway so I wasn’t in a hurry to stop them. Ds had a bedtime bottle until he was 4 🤷🏻‍♀️

My DD is almost 15 months and still has a little sippy cup of cows milk first thing. She has it in my bed with me and it buys me some time before I have to sort breakfast! She also has the same before bed.

Inthesky42 · 07/11/2022 12:53

Still give a morning cup of milk to my nearly 3 year old. Milk at 6 (when he wakes), breakfast at 7

newyearsresolurion · 09/11/2022 14:59

Am doing the same as VladsPants

ForeverTired89 · 09/11/2022 17:12

My 2.5 year old still has milk first thing. There’s no right or wrong, just whatever works for your DC.

amidsummernightsdream · 09/11/2022 19:17

We have a cup of milk as soon as we go downstairs (she asks for this now) and breakfast half an hour- an hour later. dd is 18 months but we’ve done that from around 12 months

MGee123 · 09/11/2022 22:13

It's normal for them to still have 500ml of milk a day at this age so those saying they don't need it aren't quite correct. Our 14 month old still has milk when she wakes up but out of a beaker now rather than a bottle. Then another cup before her afternoon nap and a bottle before bed.
