I am SO sensitive to sound

DD is a light sleeper and alas have fallen into the trap of tip toeing about. In all honesty, I probably over estimate her light sleepiness and over tip toe.

Noise fills me with dread. Even if she's awake. Loud noises make me ILL. Fireworks are going off and I'm as bad as a household pet. Loud music, TV, things being dropped, noisy engines, the bin men, you name it, I wince.

Will this ever leave me?

In the gentlest possible way, this isn't usual.

Have you ever thought about some counselling to help you deal with this?

That must be a really hard thing to live with. And I don't think you need to carry on living with it. Please get some help.

I feel similar-I did not realise how sensitive to sound I was until I had children though. I have invested in flare ear plugs and try to regulate myself but some noises feel very overwhelming.

Noise sensitivity is strongly linked to anxiety conditions and neurodivergence op. You might not be neurodivergent but how's your mental health?

I'm mega sensitive to sound!! I used to cry because I couldn't sleep when I was a kid, because my dad was watching TV (quietly) downstairs. He claimed he could barely hear it himself!

I suspect I'm autistic actually (there a few things that point to autism that I've noticed as I've got older, especially since having kids- I suspect my eldest son is as well, and he is also mega sensitive to sound).

No advice I'm afraid, but I think I deal with my issues better now that I realise likely related to neurodivergence.

I find myself 'shhhing' objects that dare to make a sound, I think it's normal!
